RE: WAR, BUFFALO! Coin Roll Hunting - $100 in Nickels!

in #silver7 years ago

Today, the USA five cent nickel, (actually 75% copper & 25% nickel) is the only circulating USA coin that is virtually unchanged, in metal content. The cent is no longer copper, it is zinc. No more circulating silver coins. When the price of copper and nickel peaked, in price, a few years, ago, the nickel had over 9 cents worth of metal content. Today, it is about $.033. Ironically, that is about the same number of today's 2017 Federal Reserve Note to 1913 Note has devalued to. It costs the US Mint and Tax Payer over ten cent to produce the Nickel. There is serious talk of getting rid of the nickel (and cent.) Hoard your nickels.

Wow, I knew it was more expensive to actually produce the nickel (and the penny too right) than it's actually worth but I didn't know the specifics. Thanks for sharing!
