Inner pirate

in #silver6 years ago

I'm pretty sure I was a pirate in a past life. I'd say I am now too however being a pirate these days is more about trying to take over tanker ships and hold them for ransom than the legitimate and righteous job of the pirates and Vikings of ye olden days; Stealing and plundering!

Anyway, I like silver, stacking it I mean, and have been doing so for a little while now. My stack is huge modest, but it is mine and I'm pleased with it, add to it when I can and roll in it keep it locked away safely with my guns. [Also precious to me]. I'm also responsible for getting a few of my team at work into stacking and we buy silver periodically throughout the year.

I had thought we were done for the year but one of them approached me last week and suggested we get our pirate on and pick some up prior to Christmas. Now, I've never needed much prompting to bring my inner pirate or Viking out from underneath my work suit and so I said, "shiver me timbers me hearty, get ye on the phone and order our pirate treasure that I can add to me treasure chest of...Treasure. Haarrr!"

And despite thinking that I was a complete wanker, he did.

We all select our own pieces depending on whatever budget we are working with and I chose a 10oz kookaburra as pictured. I already have a few but one can't have too many of these bad boys in the treasure chest.

You can see me holding it above, pictured with a standard 1oz kookaburra; Both of these are from the Perth Mint. How about that size difference?

Below you can see a profile shot showing the thickness of the 10oz to the left against the 1oz to the right. It feels good in the hand too...Really good.

I purchase silver with funds I have saved for just that purpose rather than dipping into my other various savings which means I purchase reasonably regularly as I'm one of those people that never seems to have trouble saving money - It's simple really; Just spend less than you earn, go without stuff and boom, you have money to spend on silver. OK, not all that simple, but essentially it kinda could be right?

This will be the last I buy for the year although I'm hoping Santa Clause gets his oversized ass down my chimney and brings me several hundred ounces...I'm not hopeful though...I don't have a chimney.

I know there's a few of you out there who stack and am curious what your strategy is for gaining the funds to do so? Do you go without stuff like I do and like my team at work also do? It's the only way I know how but I'm open to ideas. Comment if you know a better way.

I'd even be open to taking to the seas on a stollen galleon and reaving from town to town like the pirates and Vikings of old...So, let me know.

I have no strategy! 😂🤣 I just buy when I see stuff I like.

I am fortunate. My spouse and I do alright financially and it is just us (no kids). That gives us a bit of freedom for these sort of purchases when we feel like making them. My one strategy is to make sure any of my online orders qualify for free shipping. 😊

The nice thing about buying silver is there is really no cost. You are just exchanging one type of currency for another of equal (and in many ways greater) value. ☺️

Yes, we are childless too, however, we spend a lot of money and so need to budget it out so it goes in the appropriate places and in satisfactory portions, spread between our boring life commitments and the things we love to do. We're not rich, just sensible with money and very good at saving.

I like the free shipping thing. Smart. My silver guy drops mine to my office...He is local and that works fine for me considering the amount he drops. I don't always buy at the same time as those at work, but mostly so it's convenient.

Have you ever checked out the Canadian silver coins?

I have and can get them easily from my silver guy. The problem is they are more expensive and whilst I like them there's no point paying more than I have to unfortunately. Tha ks for commenting.

They're known for their purity. The weird thing about buying them is, even in Canada, we have to buy them in USD.

Hmm, strange that it's in USD...But as long as you get them, that's the main thing I guess.

It is a good investment and even the coins look nice.

Yes, I think so too, on both counts. Thanks for commenting.

To improve something, you have to measure it. So, savings "should" be easy. The issue is that the majority of us do not measure/budget our funds. A simple budget goes a looong way.
Keep on staking 'em!

Ah yes, this is truly spoken. We have a budget on an excel spreadsheet. It's good to refer to when required and keeps us on track. It all auto-sums and spits out figures based on various things and is a great way of tracking, measuring and saving. Great comment, thanks.

What!!!! I love guns too, and a tiny bit of a prepper. We have things in common, my friend @galenkp!!!
I like Kooks primarily because of the design that changes every year, other than the fact that they are quality silver coins. But I only get one a year. You must have guessed by my user name: I save in precious metals. I am not into stacking for investment purposes. The foundation of my stack are ASE, US Constitutional silver and fractional gold. STACK ON, my friend! Take care 🥰🌺🤙

Oh yes, seems we have much in common. I've got a few guns (lots actually) and they sit side by side in my safes with my metals.

I sometimes buy things based on their look...I have some nice military-themed coins and others...Generally I'm just buying for investment though as the nice looking ones cost more than the straight up coins. These 10oz ones are pretty good in the hand though...Chunky and weighty.

I'm not sure how much I buy each year but quite a lot. It's fun and besides, I can always sell it off and recoup my money if I need right? Many people buy things that that can't do that with! 🙂

I think you'd make a good pirate. Just saying...

Thanks for commenting. 😉

I decided, that the article that I will do and post tomorrow will be dedicated to you! I hope that you will like it, my friend @galenkp...
Take care. 🥰🌺🤙

Ooo...Intriguing! I'll look out for it...Should I be scared?

Hahaha... you won't, but others may! Now if you like the article, will you promise to give me a 100% upvote! Hehehe... just asking 🤣😂😁!

I will for sure!

I curate for @curangel also but can't curate yours, it won't accept posts from users that have used bid-bots...That's just the rules. I tried to send the board game one, but it won't accept it. Sorry.

Anyway, get it done and I'll throw it 100%...Although my vote isn't that big really.

How long before curangel comes. Like I posted everyday since April last year... and they never came. I give away much of my hard-earned steem in tips to whoever comes as my way rewarding followers who take the time. I need to earn the tips I give away somehow. And two weeks ago, a fellow steemian told me how to earn higher upvote values, since I don't get any. I always try my very best in every post I make. Arrrgh... frustrating, at times. And I really do not need it for myself... it is to be able to support others who come to my blog. And I have not put any fiat on steem. I just try to write the best quality articles that I can as my way of generating (mine steem, if you may) the little steem that I can for the blockchain, and an opportunity for others like me to generate steem as well.
There... I opened my heart to you, my friend @galenkp. Thanks for listening. 🥰🌺🤙

If you use bid-bots...Never. I tried to send that game post but it knows you have used a bid-bot in the last seven days so won't take the submission.

Many write great posts, like yourself but it's the bid-bot use that @curangel works against...Since the latest HF it's been the way.

I look through hundreds of posts each day just to find 7-9 to send for curangel vote-love...That's how I cam across you actually...Curating...

If you were to stop using bid-bots for seven days it would accept a submission of your posts. I guess some don't like this although it's done to promote better content and engagement...It's been working well. Since it's conception I have personally send 568 posts for votes from curangel. The other curators have sent similar numbers. It's all about the greater community, quality posts (which you do) and engagement across the platform.

I was disappointed when it didn't accept my submission of your post today but I hope this explains why. I guess a person needs to decide which way they want to go, what process works best for them.

Edit: The other benefits are those who follow the vote trail on curangel which makes your rewards greater...And the additional exposure.

Howdy sir galenkp! Poor baby has to wait a whole 2 weeks until the new year to buy silver again? lol. The last purchase this year..and it's a beauty! Wow, I love it, and 10 ounces, that's incredible. Who's your team?

My team? The people at the office I manage, and who do the work. I started a dialogue with one a while back, about saving money and he said he couldn't. I said he could...And showed him how...He now buys silver with what he saves...It spread to the rest of the team so now several of them also stack. It's pretty cool. My team has some 20 people in it although the greater office has close to 70.

That's a fantastic thing you started there sir galenkp! It's like an investment club. Well it IS an investment club! lol. I'm so impressed by the beautiful rounds so many come out with. Oh, are you collecting the Steem rounds?

Yes, it's been good for them, got many saving who thought they could not, and also gives us something to talk about that's not work-related.

It's easy to find a way to buy silver when you're addicted! So that's the secret. Not you maybe but that's what that one guy needed I bet.

Yep, I agree. One need to feel there is more value in having it than not. That's how they feel and they are all stacking little by little. Me? Well, I love it too but I'm not so worried about the look of it...I just want the metal.

I agree, you can't go wrong with silver.

I have some gold too...But not as much as silver. If only! :)

No strategy, I just love coins! It came to me little by little, my dad gave me some and then there were some that I saw in a market that were sweet!

I will buy it if its pretty or if I have some extra funds. I was one of those odd people who bought gold years ago and only because the current boyfriend was investing in it and he chided me into not saving when I was 18, no expenses and had the extra dollars....

To put it short. I have no strategy, but, I can almost roll in mine now. :)

!tip .20

No strategy seems to work for you...

It seems you're up there on the roll in it scale so that's something at least right?

Truth. It's everything. I had smart boyfriends who liked to gift coins to show their love. Sadly, I was too young to care enough about the coins. But, now, I am older and wiser. Well. older. :)

I use silver rounds as gifts, to literally everyone I gift to. Just make sense...And often sparks the stacking flame into life.

P.s. Those boyfriends must have been smart...They were with you right? 😁

🎁 Hi @galenkp! You have received 0.2 STEEM tip from @dswigle!

@dswigle wrote lately about: Christmas Cards And Gingerbread Men Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide.

My friend the Boatbuilder, Sailor and Diver [@onnovocks - note the Norse name], might like to join you on your galleon (he could build you, if you steal some planks and single type nails - to avoid wood rot caused by clashing metals: yes, you can have a war even in your own woodwork). He is a huge fan of silver as the only safe investment (alongside gold). Now that I am in his picture though, he doesn't get to do a lot of saving, so aroving he might go!

Haha, well I am always on the scout out for new crew members...The more, the merrier right? It seems he has some excellent and useful skills too. I think he could well be a great addition to the pirate ship. Thanks for the suggestion! 😃
