Inherited Collection Highlights - 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar, Fathers Side

Today's highlight is a little bit different. It is the only piece that I got from either side that I have yet to put into a 2x2. I did buy as part of the collection from My Father's side a large amount of half dollars. My grandparents had saved about half of them that were 40% silver, and the other half were not silver. There may have been some Franklin's mixed in there but the vast majority was Kennedy's and only half of them were silver. While I bought everything else in the collections, these were bought purely as an investment in silver because at the time it would have taken an entire binder to put them on the 2x2s and the only way I could justify spending so much on them was if they were a precious metal play. I traded in all the non silver half dollars and sat on the 40% for quite a while. I eventually sold all the 40% silver to a friend who liked to collect them and bought other numismatic coins. This is the only 40 cent piece I kept because I love the dark toning that it has.

Not sure what caused the coloration on this one, clearly it's environmental of some nature but either way I love the way it look. I assume that they're are much better condition coins out there but this is one that I can handle with these and not worry about any potential damage. They made over 295 million of these in 1967, all of them coming from philadelphia. This is something that I would consider a pocket piece or a fiddle fidget, one of the coins around that you're not afraid to play with when you get the itch
