Aleksa's Book Review: Government in Business

My trips through Singapore's reading material have been pretty interesting: they focus a lot on prudent government and making sure that Singapore becomes and remains wealthy and competitive. They're not nearly as free-market capitalist as I'd first expected, opting instead for a mixed bag of treating the government as a business and interfering in the market somewhat.
This book is the low point in the journey - it's a slog that a Shaolin monk would sparsely have the patience to brave. I gave up at 40% of the way through when I realised I had not understood a single word of the book, mostly referring to abstract competitiveness measures that have more similarities with a MACD analysis than anything else. In general, I gathered that Singapore has a great government but I was at a loss as to why.
Perhaps another reading may do the trick, but I struggle to find a reason why that would be the case. The book just doesn't do it for me, and I'll do my Singapore government research elsewhere.
