Aleksa's Book Review: Rajaratnam on Singapore

"Mr Rajaratnam says that we're obsessed with profit here in Singapore. Precisely - it is our lifeblood, and it is good that we should be obsessed with that which keeps us thriving."

This little adage exemplifies the political philosophy espoused by the late Lee Kuan Yew, continuing into the present administrations. This book explains in no small amount of detail the precise advantages that Singapore wields in the ASEAN and the world at large.

The geopolitics of the South China Sea are given a thorough examination here, as is the structure of the defense infrastructure that Singapore runs on. ASEAN pretty much revolves around the SCS and the Malacca straits, and it shows in their payment scheme and regulations.

This is the most politically savvy book of the 5 I read this week, and I think this is the one you should read if you're into straight-up business and political analysis of Singapore. The writing left much to be desired - written in a way that demanded 100% of my concentration to understand is not a good way to structure a book. Otherwise, would definitely recommend.
