SIX WEEK HEALTH WEEK3: HOW I RELIVE MY SELF OF STRESS

Shoutout to @healthsquared and @sweetsssj for organising this wonderful contest that keeps getting better every week.

My life naturally as a medical student is basically filled with stress. From having to spend  at least 8hours everyday attending classes, or going for ward rounds or getting involved in practicals  and still been required to study after the day's activities, its obvious that its very stressful and demanding.

Prior to recent event my activities after classes was to immediately go to the university library to study, but i found out that it was mentally demanding and didnt help my academic performance at all. But after a session with one of my counselors at school i realised that before studying or embarking on  any other mental activities i needed to destress my self. 

So here are the best practices that work for me

  • SLEEPING: immediately after classes i take my bath, eat and the next thing i do is to sleep. I make sure i sleep for at least 8-9 hours everyday. Even if its not at a stretch. When i do wake up the effects on my body is just amazing, because i feel really relived strong and mentally alert. If i try to study then my rate of assmilation is way faster.
  • TAKING A COLD BATH. I dont know if you are a great fan of the water heater, but i recommend you try taking out a cold water bath if the temperature where you are staying is not freezing.it works wonders for me and keeps me fresh.
  • PLAYING SOCCER: is one of the most effective way i de stress, because its fun and take your mind away from the normal hustle of life. Its also an exercise that involve your whole body, it  increases your hearth rate and hence blood circulation to virtually all part of the body. Now its common knowledge that hormones like cortisol which helps relive stress can be transported through blood from where they are produced to other part of the body where they are  needed. So getting increased blood circulation by playing football helps alot.  

    

  • SWIMMING: i do swim every saturday and its another important exercise that helps me destress, just like football its much fun also when you go out with friends to swim. It also involes the whole body and have a great effect on blood circulation.

  • LISTENING TO MUSIC: is another important way i destress because it makes me happy and relaxed.
  • HANGING OUT WITH FRIENDS: is just another way i de stress and its very effective. The jokes we share among ourself is enough to get you relived from all stress. And sometime we occasionally go to see movies or go to one of the local viewing centers to see football games. And trust me the fun i get from this activities is enough to get rid of any mental stress i might been experiencing.

 

so thats how i basically relive myself from stress during and after a difficult week.
