That one time I was in Thrasher Magazine
My mom and I were looking for an old Windows XP installation disc so that I could play Command and Conquer Generals on my mac when we stumbled upon an old issue of Thrasher that she saved.
I sent in a photo of me crooked grinding my family's cement back porch for Photografitti, a section in the magazine of reader-submitted skate photography.
This was before digital cameras were commonplace. The issue that I was printed in was during the year 2002. Im 30 years old now, so I would have been 15 then. I had to wait for the photo to get developed, and then mail the physical photograph to Thrasher's San Francisco headquarters.
I remember reading the issue in bed one night and running into my parent's room to wake them up when I saw myself in the magazine. I was HYYPED. The caption really takes the cake too:
"Zack Goulet defies Mom by sneaking in a crooks when she said not to. No knobs, but thats the SLA spirit"
I thought it was hilarious they awarded me with the Skatespot Liberation army for using my backyard. I certainly did not think my backyard would be anything special, I just thought the ledge was pretty high for kids my age to be grinding thats all. Look at how big my shoes were. I think i had big feet when I was growing because I would buy size 10 and 11 throughout highschool, and now, I wear size 11.
