The venturi metre.
Hello friends welcome to my blog. Thanks for visiting my brand new article.
Have you ever questioned yourself how the discharge is measure in a pipes? If you dont know what it is your are in right place.
At first let me introduce with the venturimetre.
#Venturimetre is a device that use the Bernoulis principles to measure the discharge in a pipe along with continuty equation.
In this instrument the crossection of middle section is reduced, the crossection of inlet and outlet being the same. The crossection with smallest area is called throat.
When the water enters the inlet, the velocity increases and the pressure decreases. It is done in short length without resulting without significant loss of energy. But in the case of outlet the length is increased because there is significant loss of energy and possibility of formation of eddies decreases with increase in length. The divergance is made gradually. The pressure is measured at the inlet and throat section.
Using Bernoulis equation P/r +(V^2)/(2g)+Z =constant and contunity equation AV=Q , where P is the pressure, V is velocity , Z is elevation and Q is dischare. The final equation Q=cdA1*V1 is derived A1 being the crossectional area.
Venturimetre has been applied for long time for measurement of the discharge through pipes. This device is easy to install and loss of energy is loss.
