House of craftsmen

Dar Al Sanayea or Moroccan School of Arts and Crafts is a historical school for technical education in the field of carpentry and dyeing and many traditional handicraft industries, gilded and engraved leather products and ceramics.

And then the establishment of Dar al-Sanaa in 1919 in an old house in the city and then move to a new building in front of Bab al-Aqla in 1927. Dar al-Sana'a was associated with the Spanish artist Don Mariano Bertuzzi who was appointed director of the school in 1930 and worked on improving it by creating a beautiful garden, With carpets and glazes, as well as its ceilings with beautiful colors and its roots with mosaics.

He also worked on collecting the effects of the Moroccan industry, studying its special character and preserving its traditional color and original splendor. Dar Al Sanaya collected many traditional craftsmen and worked to help them, and contributed to the graduation of an elite of manufacturers in various arts and crafts.

Thanks to the traditional industries produced and its location in the center of the city, Dar Al Sanaya has been a place for many exhibitions of traditional industry. It is also a favorite for many Arab and foreign tourists as one of the most famous tourist places in Tetouan.
