Large-scale asteroid approaching Earth on 1 September !!!

in #space7 years ago

The Earth will be on a date when the large "Florence" asteroid passes safely near it on 1 September 2017, about 7 million kilometers away.

The asteroid "Florence" is one of the largest near-Earth asteroids, where measurements from NASA's Spitzer and NEOWISE show a diameter of about 4.4 km.

"While many of the known asteroids passed near Earth closer to Florence on September 1, they were smaller," said Paul Chaudas, director of the Center for Near-Earth Objects (CNEOS) at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. ".

"Florence will be the largest asteroid that has passed near the Earth since NASA began tracking asteroids close to our planet," he said.

The event provides a wonderful opportunity for scientists to study the asteroid closely. The "Florence" asteroid is expected to be an excellent target for the radar observatory on Earth.

The Radar Imaging Center is part of NASA's Goldstone Solar System in California and the Arecibo Observatory of the National Science Foundation in Puerto Rico.

The resulting radar images will show the actual size of the "Florence" asteroid, and can reveal details of the small surface.

The asteroid "Florence" was discovered by Bobby at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia in March 1981.

The asteroid was named "Florence", following the British Florence Nightingale (1820-1919), the modern nursing leader.

According to studies, asteroid approach from Earth, the closest to any since 1890, and there will be no similar passage in this proximity to our planet until 2500.

This is exciting ... is not it?
