How do we pray?

in #spiritual7 years ago (edited)

This is a big topic. There is no simple answer until we go back to the scriptures and see what our Lord himself has taught us how to pray.

Lord's Prayer

In Matthew 6:9-13, Our Lord teaches us how to pray:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Proper Focus

First, looking at this prayer, we learn to focus on Him alone, not what we want. Recognize Him as our heavenly Father whose name is holy. We focus on His kingdom and His will, not what we want.

Next, do you see what we should ask? Food, forgiveness, and keeping us safe from temptation. That's all!

It hinders us to have an effective prayer when we focus on ourselves more than God when we talk with Him. Therefore, it is not surprising so many prayers are not answered because of the wrong focus.

And there you have it.

Go talk with God. He is always there and listening. When we talk with Him, He always comforts and holds our hands like a good father.

Thanks @cheneats for this soul enriching post. I'm blessed and have followed and upvoted you.

Thank you for reading and for your comment. I appreciate it.

The way Yeshua taught his disciples to pray give us a wonderful outline of how to present ourselves before the Father.

Absolutely! The outline was from our Lord Himself. Nothing is better than that :)

I know this as Forgive us our trespassers, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

I like your translation better and have changed mine. Thank you :)

Actually I prefer "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." That is my favorite

Bravo! This is my favorite psalm, too! I was even thinking about writing a post about it yesterday. :) You know what - I am going to write about it today. ;)

Prayer is the pillar of religion where it is considered one of the most important and early acts of worship imposed on the Muslims, in order to satisfy them and to offer them to the worshiper a weight in the balance of his good deeds. The prayer also cleanses the souls and hearts of jealousy and hatred. It is true until you accept from God Almighty.
They differ from one religion to another. The only link between them is the faith of the heart in the presence of God. I thank you @cheneats for all the information you provide about it

Thank you for sharing a different perspective on prayer. I appreciate your comment :)

I actually do read each post you write, and I do believe I upvote most of the time except when I do not have any votes left. It has come to my attention that some followers have me on automated upvote..Trying to understand the point?? Actually sometimes I have barely hit send.

Thank you for being a faithful reader of my posts. I really appreciate it.

Congratulations! You have some loyal followers who auto upvote you. :) One reason people use auto upvote is they know they will upvote their favorite authors sooner or later, why not use it in case they get busy and forget.

Is that really not why you post? In the hope that someone, even it its one person finds your content of interest and you have something to share with each other. Upvotes not being the primary concern, but rather a gift in a sense.

I agree. Even if it only resonates with one person :)

allright then we are in agreement :)))

yes, we are all busy

All GLORY, HONOR and PRAISE to HIM!
thanks @cheneats
