The spirituality of Jesus: In a little while the people of this world won't be able to see me, but you will see me. John 14:19

The Last Supper was one of the most important moments in the Lord's life. The Gospel of John, which is also known as the gospel of the eternal life, recounts that Jesus revealed many mysteries about the Kingdom of God, the empire or dominion of the divine perfections, to his disciples at this gathering before being arrested and betrayed by Judas Iscariot on the Mount of Olives.
Jesus knew that after his departure, the times of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom, would begin and this would give rise to the Church as an institution of the new religion. And Jesus wanted to prepare his disciples for this very important moment, something that would happen at the most difficult situation, which would occur at the Feast of Pentecost.
Christian spirituality is not simple because the goal of the spiritual life (to live according to the spirit) is to achieve the integrity, or in other words, the likeness to God in essence, to be wise as God is wise, and to achieve this, a second birth, the birth according to the sprit, is needed.
This is why Jesus was very insistent on one fact: the Holy Spirit would come to the aid of his disciples and give them the spiritual gift of eternal life for the salvation of many. And this is why Jesus addresses his disciples with these words after washing their feet: "I won't leave you like orphans. I will come back to you. In a little while the people of this world won't be able to see me, but you will see me. And because I live, you will live" John 14:18-19.
Jesus spoke to them about the life, that he and they would live; the eternal life is the life that, once obtained, cannot be lost, because it is the spiritual life in the presence of the divine, of the most perfect. And this new life Jesus explained to the disciples would come with the Holy Spirit, which would give them the spiritual rebirth, and thus a new vision would come because Jesus would always be present, because the disciples would see the world with the eyes of God. As happened with the disciples, this is the greatest gift that every Christian can receive, a gift that makes every Christian a friend and brother of Jesus.
