Chelsea analysis and review after defeat
I just have to accept the defeat tonight against Bayern Munchen at Stamford Bridge.
But the analysis can't be ceased undescribed.
What went wrong for Chelsea
Without critics, I can say that Lampard caused alot in the match. How will you ever play a defensive counter tactic against a team like Bayern Munich without having a winger (at least) on the pitch, who will be moving with ball and provides creativities or chances for the striker. Aside, with the presence of a winger, Bayern would have committed fouls which will force them in lowering their tempo and pressure. Having William and Pedro on the bench for too long really caused the mess and damage. Having one of them or both on the pitch would have enhance attacking threat upfront for Chelsea.
Also, Lampard should have substitute Barkley in half time, having experience difficult time on the pitch this first half. Barkley really missed out totally on the pitch by contributing little to the attack.
Moreover, the result against Tottenham in the weekend ahead of tonight Champions League match really deceives the Lampard by repeating the same set of players. If not for Tottenham attacking threats or machines being in injury, the game would have been something else for Chelsea.
Is there anything remains for Chelsea in the Champions League
Despite the defeat, I can't write off Chelsea out of Champions League anyhow because a philosopher says, "it is not over until it over". The essence of second or return leg in the Champions League is to give opportunity teams to redeem themselves after their first leg results. Manchester United qualified against PSG last season after losing the first leg, without having the same set of quality players like PSG. Different comeback have occurred in Champions League over the years. I'm not boosting that Chelsea will qualify but the truth is that anything can happen.
Lessons learn from tonight Champions League game
There are many things that I observed but to mention few;
- Chelsea really need an attacking midfielder; I hope the arrival of Ziyech in the summer will be a great advantage and solution to that.
- Fullbacks with attacking mentality are really needed as well.
- Sharp and quick striker should be on the transfer list as well
- Lampard should stick with Giroud as central forward till the new striker will be signed
Conclusively, I hope Chelsea bounce back from the defeat in the weekend game in EPL and show fighting spirit in the second leg at Munich.
