History of WRC cars - Škoda Octavia WRC
Hi, Steemers!
Škoda factory has a long tradition in motorsport activities. In nineties they had Škoda Favorit Group A (F2 class at that time), the car that was able to finish hardest rallies in the world.
Soon, after Favorit model, Škoda built Felicia kit car with 1.6 atmospheric engine and around 185bhp.
But real stuff came in 1998 when they made Škoda Octavia WRC car (there was also Octavia kit car for a short time before that).
Drivers were Emil Triner and Pavel Sibera, two drivers that drove Škoda Favorit 1.3 Group A car on WRC rallies. Later another Chech driver joined the team: Roman Kresta (later, in 2005 Ford's factory driver).
Later they hired top guns from WRC: Armin Schwarz, Toni Gardemeister, Bruno Thiry and Didier Auriol.
Car was very strong but not as fast as the competition. They tried later with smaller car - Fabia WRC but also without major success.
I think that size of the car was the biggest Octavia's problem.

It's funny seeing this big Skoda considering what is known as a rally car these days.
