Joe Girardi GONE, Yankees in a new direction.
Joe Girardi was fired as Yankees manager on October 26, 2017. This came by surprise to many Yankees fans and baseball fans in general. Brian Cashman, Yankees GM, seems to make the statement that the Yankees want change. Like anything in baseball, the best way to judge performance, is by the numbers. Lets examine Joe Girardi by the numbers…
Girardi by the numbers
0 Number of times the Yankees did not have a winning season under Joe Girardi. Also the same number of Manager of the year awards. (Won Manager of the Year with Marlins)
.562 Girardis winning percentage as Yankees manager.
1 Number of World Series Championship in 2009. Also number of pennants won.
3 Number of AL East Divisions titles.
5 Number of Yankees managers with more wins than Girardi's 910.
(Joe McCarthy, 1,460; Joe Torre, 1,173; Casey Stengel, 1,149; Miller Huggins, 1,067; Ralph Houk, 944)
6 Number of playoff appearances.
910 Total number of wins which places him at 6th all times
I feel that Joe should still be the Yankees skipper. There were many factors involved in why the Yankees didn't make it to the World Series. How about Judges strikeout totals? Lets not pick at personal performance because at the end of the day, these athletes work very hard at their craft. I believe that the yankees struggled because they lacked to reach the maximum offensive potential as a team. They are still a team to look out for in 2018. I am intrigued to see who the Yankees pick to fill the void. Also interesting why this decision was truly made. Looking out for articles on these two topics.
Do you think Giradi should still have a job? Lets hear your thoughts.
