It's alive! - Where I Was All Those Days

in #sports7 years ago

Yes, it's been a while. Or shall I say, it's been a very long time! The past half year I didn't really contribute to this community. Much has happened in the past months, that just kept me distracted too much.

One of which, was breaking up after quite some years with my now ex-girlfriend. I don't want to go into details, but let's say it takes some getting used to being single again. What I can say though, I'm back on track and I'm actually starting to enjoy it more and more :)

How to fill your single life?

When becoming single after a long period of time, you suddenly are stuck with a boatload of spare time to fill. And boy did I do this! It's obvious I didn't take Steemit into the equation. However, I dove headfirst into a life filled with sports!

Right after breaking up, I decided it was time to get the ball rolling in the sports and exercise department. I got my trusty old racebike out of the shed and out of the dust. At every moment there was wind, I went out for some wind surfing. And eventually, I got somewhat addicted to running.

Conquering the Swiss Alpes

My first big sporty event last year involved getting some of my colleagues and myself on race bikes. Why? A cycling-weekend in Switzerland!

This trip would involve 3 days of cycling and a total of 8000 (!) meters of elevation gain. Thus far, the most sporty thing I've ever done. I simply was never really a sporty kinda guy. Well, exciting it was... Tough on the body, but exciting!

To give you an idea, here are some pictures taken on that trip:

Still smiling, on our first-day warm-up trip:

Note: We rode all the roads you see in these pictures that day.

Yet, some more climbing:

In the next weeks, I will write some more posts about other big sports event's I've joined and will join in the future. To give you a little teaser, I've signed up for a 6-day cycling tour in, yes you've guessed it, the Alpes!

The Bottom Line

As I said, I never was a sporty person, and I must confess that I was quite nervous about this trip. I wasn't sure if I could make it. Although I had the tough situations before, these three days in the Alpes reminded me of an important thing. That is, if you really passionately want to achieve something, you can do it! Just by pushing hard!

Welcome back, passion is pushing lovely moments in to time,
En dont forget steemify😉

Thanks :). Don't worry, Steemify has been push notification ever since day one! Very conveniently ;)

We appreciate that 👍

Welcome back to Steem! We’ve missed you! 😃

Thanks for sharing all of those gorgeous photos from your trip. That’s an impressive feat!

Sorry to hear about your breakup. No matter how it happens - they are always hard. 😔 I agree with @guchtere though! Use the time to get out and enjoy all sorts of fun activities!

Hi @coruscate, thanks! I'm still here :) It's really nice to hear all those nice words from everyone! Actually, a whole bunch of ppl contacted me to ask how I was doing and if everything was OK. Quite the community... It's really great here :)

Also... yesterday I installed the Partiko app to test it out. Look what the screenshots show in the app store:

You are even iStore famous by now! ^^

Sorry to hear about the relationship, take your time getting used to the single life again. I did it a few years and enjoyed all the 🏄🏃🕺🏕️ stuff you can do in your freetime.

Like you did with your colleagues it seems 😎👍
You scored some amazing views during your ride!
What bike are you riding? Can't see it clear on the pictures...

When do you start surfing again?

Thanks for those nice words, I really enjoy my time indeed! No rush :)

That bike was an old crappy steel-framed one I bought secondhand for 200 Euros 5 or 6 years ago. It's an old Bottecchia Topsprinter with the crappiest campi groupset you can buy.

The good thing is, since I've gotten more serious with the whole cycling thing, I bought myself a nice Christmas present a few weeks ago:

I went from full steel to full carbon :p I've only been able to test this bike on an easy 60Km trip but it was a total game changer. So nice! Can't wait to take this one for some serious rides!

Regarding the surfing, the last time I went was around Christmas. As I see now, I might go to Brouwersdam in 2 weeks if the weather lets me. What about you? Have you been on the water lately? If you guys go somewhere nice I wouldn't mind joining some time. (I'm more or less a beginner though :P)

Dude that is an awesome Christmas present!!!😎
It's a real beauty! If you might feel lonely you an almost bring her with you to your room 😇
Is the line more grey or blue looking? I already totally forgot about the old one, did you say something?😍

We're beginners to. Even op zijn Hollands gezegd wij prutsen gewoon altijd lekker aan. It's een around Christmas to that I've been on the water. Weren't that many windy days when I had time available to go out for a session.

The bike is mat grey/black with lime details.

Aanprutsen, dat is precies waar ik ook been wat surfen betreft :)

nice place. nice photography. your cycle is very nice. :D

Hi @impressions, thanks for the kind words! It was a great trip indeed. We were also really lucky with the weather :)
