That's really cool the race will be held in the place the name was derived from.
Though based on what I've learned about Sparta I don't think they actually did a race like this. Their competitions must have had more blood and broken bones and that probably the last thing anyone needed back then.
I tried doing the Spartan work once, just once, buy the 8th move I was spent. Mostly because I'm out of shape but damn it would be tough to do all in a row.
Yes, you are right. They never had races like this.
The name is more about the endurance and physical struggle that you have to go through :-)
