Something that should concern any "USA USA!" football fans

With the USA being one of the only teams to secure two victories in the world cup and this being I think the first time the USA has ever scored two wins in a row in World Cup qualifiers, the fans are started to get a bit ancy and this will probably only get multiplied of Tunisia turns up later and doesn't really give it their all since they cannot possible advance in the tournament anymore. A victory there will have the USA fans who are I think, delusional in their claims of being one of the best, thinking this almost certainly untrue claim to even more so.

Well here are some stats to maybe bring those people down to earth a bit.

I'm not even sure if the Group D overall winners thing is even true, I believe that is yet to be determined by the results in the next few days. It DOES make a difference though.

There is a 12% chance of overall championship victory being predicted at the moment and I believe even that is being generous and here is why.

There are a ton of statistics gathered during the World Cup, some of them actually kind of make my mind spin because I can't imagine how difficult that is to pull off. They include a ton of things but the one most casuals will pay attention to is goals scored by individuals.

You will notice a decisive lack of stars and stripes on there and I find it funny that the Canadian flag does appear. This stat can be kind of disregarded for a lot of people that appear on it because a strong team is going to work over a weaker team and there are a lot of weaker teams in this world cup because of the expanded roster.

So there are no Americans on that list but guess which else the USA has nobody on. All the rest of them.

• team pass %
• corners
• and team pass attempts

The USA doesn't appear on the top 5 of ANY of these lists and while someone that says "scoreboard tells the tale" is definitely true, this should maybe the a bit of medicine that takes you back down to the ground. The USA hasn't really been tested yet and while I think they are doing wonderfully, they haven't really faced a quality opponent yet. When they do I think there are going to be a lot of people that are crying into their Budweisers and ranch dressing.

I'm all about supporting the home team, I am doing it as well, but I think a lot of people are really getting ahead of themselves by thinking that we got this one in the bag. you are in for a real wake up call when we get to the elimination stages.

Personally, and a lot of this depends on who they actually end up facing, which is something we do not yet know, I would be really happy if the US simply made it past the first round of knockout stages. To me, this would be a real accomplishment well beyond what I expect of this team.

Support your squad, but drop the arrogance please. It's just embarrassing
