The Super Bowl was a massive letdown this year

in #sports2 days ago

I suppose you could say the same about last year and if you are not a fan of NFL, you could say it about every year I guess. This year saw the Seattle Seahawks absolutely dominate the field in a very one-sided affair that was basically determined after the first quarter.

I arrived late to the game where my friends had saved me a seat at a packed bar of people that were mostly cheering for the Eagles. Things were noisy at the beginning but then the crowd in the place I was at started to quiet down as it became more and more evident that the Patriots just didn't seem to have much going for them and that Seattle was definitely going to win.

one of the best tackles the Patriots had on the night was when a streaker rushed the field and Kyle Williams helped to catch him. Imagine spending thousands upon thousands of dollars it takes to go the the Super Bowl and then rushing the field, getting fined and then kicked out. They won't even show this sort of thing on the air in order to discourage people from doing it but yet, here I am posting it.

Watching the game on TV is an exercise in extreme frustration due to the prolific amounts of commercials that they have during this game. The game itself as far as the clock is concerned is only 1 hour long, yet the game takes over 4 hours to complete and while they will claim this is because of various aspects of the game where the game starts and stops that is BS and they know it. How else can they get over 3 hours of commercials at us.

As for the halftime show: I know that this is a point of controversy but I personally don't give a shit. It doesn't make much sense to me that we would have a show that is almost entirely in Spanish in a game that is watched almost exclusively by Americans who are overwhelmingly English-speaking but if I had to guess I would say that it is rooted in politics and that makes it even stupider.

The problem with this game was that it was not competitive. At no point in time did it appear as though the Patriots were remotely a threat and Seattle wasn't even being all that creative with their play choices. The amount of times they handed the ball over the Kennety Walker III was just nuts and what is more nuts is the Pats had to have known this was going to happen but were just completely unable to stop it.

When they would hand him the ball on every other snap and he would rush for a gain of 4-10 yards every single time I would groan but at the same time if I am the coach of Seattle and this is working time after time after time after time, why would you change the strategy? The Patriots are helpless to stop it so it's guaranteed victory. K. Walker won the MVP of the match and it's deserved I guess but seeing as how he had the ball 50% of the time this was always going to happen.

The Patriots were just awful on offense as well, allowing 6 sacks and throwing 2 interceptions. I think there was a fumble in there as well but at that point I don't think I was really even paying attention anymore.

When the Patriots got their one and only impressive passing TD I kind of felt like the Seahawks weren't 100% trying to prevent it anymore. The game was already won at this point and all of us in the audience were bored.

Last year when the Chiefs put up a similar level of non-impressive I was disappointed as well. I was supporting the Chiefs but I wasn't really upset that they lost, I was upset that the game was friggin boring. These are supposed to be the best of the best and when it doesn't end up that way it kind of makes me ask myself why the hell am I spending nearly 5 hours of my life on this crap.

I think that next year I am not going to bother watching even though everyone else is. Just like with MMA cards that bore me I sometimes feel better about not watching it live and just catching the score after the fact.
