Could you win a Olympic medal for playing Call of Duty in France?

in #sports7 years ago

Olympian athletes are usually associated with powerful bodies, which is a result of years of training, practice and careful preparation. The world is changing at a rapid pace, and even the Olympics might have to adapt.

There is a lot of talk in the world around eSports being a potential medal event at the Paris Olympics in 2024. The Asian games in 2022 has already confirmed that it will be a medal sport.

What is the view out there?

Thomas Bach the IOC president is of the opinion that there is a lot of barriers to entry as eSports are contrary to Olympic rules and values of sport (for now). Tony Estanguet, co-president of the Paris Olympic bid, has confirmed that they will meet with the IOC and eSports representatives to consider the inclusion of eSports at the 2024 games.

The International Olympic Committee is against it, but competitive video gaming draws huge young audiences and deserves the same platform as the other Olympic Events.

How does a sport become an Olympic sport?

As can be expected, for a sport become an Olympic sport is a massive task. Many sports have tried to get into the Olympics, but it is an expensive exercise and a political minefield. It is a long and tedious process.

Only 5 sports has been in every Olympics. The sports are cycling, athletics, gymnastics swimming and fencing. A sport must first be recognized by the Olympic committee. In order to do that, the sport has to have at least an international federation overseeing the sport.

Campaigning to become an Olympic sport can run you over $650 000 dollars per campaign as you have to produce a lot of marketing collateral including bid films, physically attending international bid events only to mention a few.

Another very important point to remember, is that when you are in, it is not to say you will stay in as the Olympic program is evaluated after each Olympics.

It is not up to us to make the decision if eSports will be featured at the next Olympics, but what I will say is that eSports, will definitely be featured as a sport where you can earn rewards on SportsPodium when the project goes live.

eSports is in huge development. It became a big industry. Both indiviually and as a team people are making huge incomes. They are giving so much time to improve themselves for that. It would be great to see it in Olympics. National teams fighting for podium.

And who is going to Campaign for the eSports spending these amount of money ? The producers ?

I believe, soon esports will reach this level.

Esports is going to be huge. I’m invested in a lot of crypto revolving around it. I wish it came out earlier I use to be nasty at Call of Duty lol

I personally think its inevitable. The video game industry is only going to get larger every year. Technology is heading in that direction with VR platforms. I am pretty confident most if not all gamers would endorse this.
