What's next for Conor McGregor?

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

Now that the dust has settled after an absolutely ludicrous fight week about a fortnight ago, many people are left thinking, what's next? And I am sure nobody is thinking that more than Conor McGregor. We all know what went down at the Barclays center in brooklyn two weeks ago, so I just want to focus on what's next, and the possible fallout from such a crazy incident.

I can guarantee you that most fight fans want to see Conor back, even if they hate him after the bus attack, there is just a different type of buzz when it is a McGregor card, and it would be such a shame to never have that again, we have not had that many if you think about it.

Now of course his antics can't go unpunished, because the UFC would not exist if everyone was going around acting like that, but I feel the punishment should be more financial than anything else, In my opinion If Conor gets suspended for a year or two, he will only get worse than he is now, remember every single one of his crazy incidents recently have been while he is not in fight camp, MMA seems to be the only thing that keeps him grounded.

It's time for him to get get the head down and get back to basics, he only has a few good fighting years left before his age will get the better of him. In my opinion he is just shy of greatness, if he can get his life back on track and get back into the octagon and start putting people away again, he can easily be in consideration for one of the greatest to ever do it.

If you're interested in the whole story between Conor and Khabib, watch the video above, Joe goes into a bit more detail into what sparked the incident.

Multiple angles of the incident in question.

Conor and his teammate Cian Cowley are due back in court in Brooklyn on June 14th, lets hope a plea deal can be reached then and we can get back to normality by the end of the year. I'm optimistic we see him fight again, he's too big a cash cow to be ignored. Lemme know your thoughts below.

As long as he does not get sent down his next fight will be HUGE, nice article @thecryptkeeper

Hopefully he won't, I'm hearing mixed reports that he's going to get a plea deal. Thanks man, appreciate it :D

I think we can take Ilir Latifi's word for the events which occurred after the press conference for the UFC 223. He said that this entire situation is partly due personal issues that Conor McGregor has and partly is part of the show. I am convinced that McGregor will eventually get back to the octagon to fight first Mayweather and then Khabib. Is that good for the sport of MMA and UFC brand? I don’t think so!

It doesn't seem so to actual MMA fans, but for casuals, this will bring a lot more eyes, bad or not.

I am a newly converted UFC fan after watching boxing for decades. Personally the main thing which has made me lose my interest in today’s professional boxing was the power that the promoters have over the boxing federations. Although you might argue that it’s too early to say that, but I got the impression that UFC is slowly adopting the professional boxing promoters business model. And I don’t like that.

You'd be correct in thinking that man, a lot of people have been saying that in recent times, If only we could have a decentralized fight league haha.

these situations are a shame for the sport, I agree with your opinion I think it should be a financial sentence, also anger therapy and community work would be a mistake to get him out of the UFC for a year or more

Yeah I agree, some community work a bit like what Jon Jones done, he defiantly will end up doing something like that, a long with a fine and multiple law suits I would assume.

he had a long time without fighting, after floyd mayweather that absence put at risk substitutes, I thought he would not return to the octagon but now in this problem we will see how he resolves and if he manages to concentrate on fighting more in ufc than elsewhere

I hope so man, I'm done with all the messing, I just wanna see him in MMA now.

we are all as anxious as you, regularly reviewing some of your fights on youtube

McGregor is nothing but a bad loser!! Would he being going round acting the way he does if he had beat Floyd Mayweather? I think not. He got beat in the biggest event of this century and he can't handle it. That's all there is to it. Do I want to see him back? I don't really give a shit. The guy is a fat headed nob. Would I say that to his face? Certainly fucking not.

If I genuinely believed the guy was a fat-headed noob, I'd say it to his face. Feel like that's not something he'd get pissed about. Probably laugh at me and tell me too bad I'm not having a red-panty night with my girlfriend.

Haha that, or he'd throw something at you.

I disagree with this. McGregor is a lot of things but he isn't stupid, he went into that Mayweather fight knowing full well what the outcome would be. The money and the extra fame he has gained from it I believe to be a huge factor in the way he's been since but definitely not the loss.

If you have followed McGregor in his MMA career he has actually handled loss extremely well.

^^^^^^ Exactly.

Hahah I don't think many people would say it to his face man, I'm not sure I agree with you that the loss triggered all this, I think the money and power had more to play than anything else.

Haha that, or he'd throw something at you.

He's 29, most would say not even in his prime yet. The guy has shown he is a force to reckon with in multiple divisions. He's top 10 to ever step in the octagon as is, in my opinion. I expect him to come back later this year. His fight with Khabib will break PPV records as Conor is promoting shit WWE style now.

Haha yeah man, if he comes back and fights Khabib, I see it being the biggest card ever by a country mile.

I wonder if we will see him fight again, the only stumbling block for me is the security aspect. Things were bad enough when it was McGregor Vs Diaz and the UFC had to go to great lengths to keep them apart at all times.

If they set up him against Khabib it will be a total logistical nightmare. No way they could allow their teams to be anywhere close to each other. There would be that constant risk it could boil over and not only would that fight be at risk of being cancelled but similarly to UFC 223 other fighters can get caught in the crossfire.

Yeah they're going to have to make some serious changes going forward, it literally can't happen again. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and we get to see the fight in the octagon rather than a hallway.

I can foresee a rule from the UFC coming into play that fighters can only bring their corner men to the events and put a stop to having these teams of 20+ guys walking with them everywhere. They already did something similar after the Mcgregor V Diaz thing where they can only bring 1 person with them to certain places like weigh ins and the media day.

I actually never thought of that man, they could make that company policy going forward, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Yeah they were only aloud to bring one coach to all pre fight events after that mental presser.

It's the only way I see it happening. Cheers again for the centering tip, struggled to get it to work again at first then realised I was spelling it centre rather than the American way.

Haha, man that was happening to me for so long, use all american spelling when using HTML ;)

With the recent news of UFC possibly adding a 165lb division. I wouldn't be surprised if he is featured in the first fight to crown a champion.
