Africa Cup Of Nations(AFCON) 2019: Round of 16 Fixtures

The Africa Cup of Nations Group stage matches ended a few days ago and we are now heading into the knockout stages of the competition.

There were many upsets in the group stages, but more will happen in this next round starting on tomorrow Friday.

We all know that the first two teams from the six groups qualified automatically making a total of 12 teams and another four teams were added as best losers to make the total number to be 16!!!

Let me now mention the teams in this year's AFCON 2019 edition.

ROUND OF 16 QUALIFIED TEAMS

Morocco, Benin, Uganda, Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, South Africa, Madagascar, DR Congo, Algeria, Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana and lastly Tunisia.

Game 1: Morocco VS Benin

Morocco who is a favorite won all their 3 group games will play Benin who had only three points from their three games from group F.

This seems a one-sided game for me, though anything can happen in football. I can say that on paper Morocco who topped group D will be victors in this game.

The game will be played tomorrow 5/7/2019 19:00 EAT in Al-Salam Stadium Cairo.

Game 2: Uganda VS Senegal

This will be a cracker as it involves my country Uganda coming against Mane's Senegal!

The Uganda team has had some slight issues with allowances this last few days and they have not trained!!!

This strike will have an impact on the team and it makes us more likely to lose hehehe!!!
It has to be noted that Uganda was second in group A and Senegal was also second in group C!!!

This game will also be played tomorrow 5/7/2019 22:00 EAT in Cairo International Stadium.

Game 3: Nigeria VS Cameroon

This is the biggest game of the tournament according to me as African football heavy giants meet in the game!!

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will have to overcome the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in this round of 16 game.

The three times African champions lost the top spot of group B after losing their last game against Madagascar.

The last meeting between these two countries ended 2-1 in favor of Nigeria courtesy of goals from Jay Jay Okocha and John Utaka in the 2004 edition staged in Tunisia.

This will be an exciting match to watch for the fans and the tournament, I am no happy because such an encounter would have been more exciting if it was in the finals hehehe.

This game will be played on Saturday 6/7/2019 19:00 EAT in Alexandria Stadium

Game 4: Egypt VS South Africa

This is another mouth-watering match where we see the hosts who are favorites coming up against Bafana Bafana(South Africa).

It has to be noted that Egypt is among the few teams who have a 100% record in this competition as they topped group A.
South Africa scrapped through among the best losers spot after coming third in their group D with only three points.

It also looks like a one-sided game since we have seen how Egypt is well organized in this tournament.
There are a lot of shockers in football like we saw Chile being thumped by Peru yesterday in Copa America semi-final!!!

This game will also be played Saturday 06 /7/2019 22:00 EAT in Cairo International Stadium.

Game 5: Madagascar VS DR Congo

This is going to be an interesting game as Madagascar who topped group B who beat Nigeria in the last game come face to face with a resurgent DR Congo.

It has to be noted that DR Congo lost their first two games and no one knows where they got the form they walloped Zimbabwe from!!!! DR Congo beat Zimbabwe 4 goals to nil and this helped them qualify as among the best losers.

It will be an interesting match to watch as DR Congo would want to prove a point.

This game will be played on Sunday 7/7/2019 19:00 EAT in Alexandria Stadium.

Game 6: Algeria VS Guinea

Algeria is a high flying team that fetched maximum points from the recently concluded group games. Algeria seems to be a team that might end up maybe in the semis!!!

They are playing Guinea that scrapped through to last sixteen round using the best losers slot. Guinea came third in group B with a match day 3 win that salvaged them!!

This game will be played on Sunday 07/7/2019 in 30 June Stadium.

Game 7: Mali VS Ivory Coast

Mali topped group E with seven points and it will be coming against Ivory Coast who was second in group D. It will be a great game as both sides would love to advance to the next round.

It remains that on paper, Ivory Coast seems a better side, but we have to wait for match results to make a final conclusion.

This game will be played on Monday 08/7/2019 in New Suez Stadium.

Game 8: Ghana VS Tunisia

This also promises to be a tough game for both teams as Ghana take on Tunisia. Tunisia has not really performed very well in this tournament as they managed only three points out of a possible nine!!!!

On the other hand, Ghana also managed only five points. I guess both teams will want to prove a point in the tournament!!

This will be the last game of these last round of 16 fixtures and it will be played on Monday 08/7/2019 in Ismailia Stadium.

I guess we are going to see many goals scored in this round or even extra time football. The tournament has had many games ending in less than three goals!!!

So folks let us wait and see what happens starting tomorrow with my team Uganda also playing.
