SPUD v. 100% Power Up
I like the weekly #SPUD event as it reminds users of the importance of developing their STEEM POWER.
For SteemIt to thrive, we need authors to power up their STEEM.
However, I have mixed feelings about events that try to manipulate user's investment activities.
People should make investment decisions according to their needs and not social pressure.
People should make their investment decisions based upon what they want to accomplish with steem.
Putting my money, where my mouth is.
I want to have enough SP so that my upvote is worth over $0.02. This happens when one has about $500 in STEEM POWER.
The problem is that the price of STEEM keeps dropping.
I truly thought that STEEM would hold above a dime. I bought $400 LTC at the end of September. As I prepaid to transfer it to STEEM, the bottom fell out of the market.
Anyway, I bought about 4000 STEEM which brought my account total to 5,555 SP. Sadly, because STEEM was weaker than I thought, my account is worth only $470 and my upvote just barely teeters on two cents.
Woe is me.
Now That I've Reached My Investment Goal
Now that I have achieved my investment goal, I can honestly tell the world what I believe is the best way to handle power ups.
I don't get many upvotes, but I truly appreciate the Steemians who vote on my posts.
To show my appreciation, I like to power up 100% of post rewards.
The 100% power up process saves me the time needed to trade STEEM on the internal market.
I Need to Make an Income
I need to draw an income from STEEM.
I now have about 5555 SP. It looks like I will be earning from 8 to 10 SP in curation rewards.
While I want to power up my author rewards, I've decided to start sluffing off my curation rewards. I will probably use my upvote value as a guage. If my account ever grows above $500, I will start sluffing off my curation rewards.
With this design, my account will continue to grow through my sparse author rewards while giving me a tiny income.
The Images
I generated a picture of a muscular spud for the top image and a steam locomotive driving at dusk for the buttom image on Night Cafe.
Conclusion
I believe that setting one's default preferences to 100% power up does more for the platform than #SPUD. As for my account. I intend to power up 100% of my author rewards and to start sluffing off the curation rewards.
Here is a picture of a steem engine. I wish you a pleasant November.
