Augustus and Martha Wetscale (short story)

Hey guys I made another drawing for the mermay challenge and wrote a short story about these two adventurous souls.

Augustus and Martha Wetscale had it all, a nice home in the swamp, two smart kids and respectable jobs as fish mongers at a local market, but the years had left their marriage stale and uninspired. Year after year, it had gotten worse and Augustus had become depressed, staying at home, wallowing in the swamp's murky waters, avoiding contact with his fellow fish kin. Martha took it upon herself to run their business. She was good at it, even by herself she could handle the logistics, the haggling with unyielding customers, the hauling of merchandise every day to the store, but it wasn't the same without her husband. She wanted to feel like a team again, to conquer new challenges, to live.

It was at this time she discovered the now best-selling book for up-and-coming adventurers "The modern Hero's handbook". Without hesitation she bought it, and together, Augustus and Martha spent the weekend indulging in its wondrous delights. They were convinced. For the next year they read and re-read the book, memorized a few basic spells, learned to identify all the hidden dangers of the land and received martial arts training from a local master. They were ready and could hardly contain their excitement. They left the house to their kids, who by now, were old enough to fend for themselves and left the swamp, as adventurers. Their marriage was saved!
