Hardware Instability Forces Migration: BlazeScanner Moving from Hetzner to OVH
For the past several months, I’ve been running BlazeScanner—a core piece of Steem infrastructure—on a dedicated Hetzner server. The stack includes a full suite of services: Steem API, Account History , HiveMind, PostgreSQL, Redis, and supporting tooling, all containerized using Docker Compose to ensure minimal maintenance and maximum uptime.
Unfortunately, this month alone, the same Hetzner server has crashed twice without warning, bringing down BlazeScanner and associated nodes each time. These are not software-level failures—containers and logs show no errors—but complete hardware-level halts that require manual intervention via rescue mode. For infrastructure designed to run autonomously with near-zero human oversight, this level of instability is unacceptable.
I’m not alone in observing this trend. An increasing number of users across X (formerly Twitter) and technical communities have reported similar reliability concerns with Hetzner’s dedicated servers—ranging from unexplained reboots to degraded hardware performance.
Because of this, I’ve decided to migrate my entire stack to OVH. OVH has a strong reputation for transparent hardware monitoring, reliable power delivery, and consistent uptime—critical factors for blockchain infrastructure that must remain online 24/7. This move is about ensuring continuity for the services the Steem ecosystem depends on.
The migration is happening this week as I’ll be - Transferring all Dockerized services (API, AH, Hive, steemdb , rewards-charts etc .)
If you rely on BlazeScanner endpoints or any of my public infrastructure, expect brief service interruptions over the next few days—but in the long term, this transition should deliver significantly improved reliability.
Thank you for your patience, and thank you to everyone who continues to build on Steem. Solid infrastructure may be invisible when it works—but when it fails, it reminds us how essential it truly is. I’m committed to ensuring mine doesn’t let you down again.
