Today I am going to review Lalon Shah Shrine. Stay with me to know about Lalon Shah Shrine. Lalon Shah Shrine located in Cheuria village of Kushtia district, is an important cultural attraction. The final resting place of the revered mystic saint and philosopher Fakir Lalon Shah is known as Lalon Shah Shrine or Lalon Akhra. This place, known as Lalon Akhra, hosts an annual memorial festival that attracts a huge crowd of followers and visitors.
Fakir Lalon Shah was one of the most famous mystics, philosophers and Baul singers of Bengal. He was called the King of the Bauls. Fakir Lalon Shah composed thousands of songs that explored philosophical ideas and advocated against the caste system and racism. Fakir Lalon Shah died in 1890, and since his death, Lalon devotees used to flock to his tomb. The current structure of the shrine was built in 1963.
Over time, the Lalon Shah shrine has become a spiritual center for Bauls and Lalon devotees. The structure of the Lalon Shah shrine is white. The tomb of Lalon Shah is made in a combination of modern and traditional Bengali designs. When you visit the Lalon Shah shrine, you will see a crowd of Lalon devotees. Moreover, there is a museum to display artifacts, musical instruments, and manuscripts related to the life of Lalon Shah.

Lalon Shah Shrine contains the tombs of all the Lalon family, with their identities mentioned on the tombs. Lalon Shah Shrine is a place of prayer and meditation for Lalon devotees. Festivals are celebrated here every year, and accommodation is provided for Bauls and visitors during the festivals. The area surrounding Lalon Shrine is a peaceful, rural environment that reflects the Baul lifestyle.

Every year, the Lalon Mela is held at the shrine center to mark the birth and death anniversaries of Baul Emperor Lalon Shah. Thousands of Baul singers, followers, and visitors from Bangladesh and India gather at the fair. The main attraction of the fair is the continuous Baul music sessions by Baul devotees and followers from different countries. The fair also features traditional crafts, food, and colorful performances of folk culture.

The Lalon Shah Cemetery is not just a temple, it is a living center of philosophy and music for Baul devotees. Lalon followers sing Lalon songs, which reveal deep spiritual truths about the human soul, body and divinity. Lalon Shah shrine represents tolerance, simplicity and equality, which keeps the Baul tradition alive. Baul music has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

There are various handicraft shops for visitors coming to the premises of Lalon Shah Mazar. Where you will find Ektara carrying the memory of Baul Emperor Lalon. Visitors visiting here do not make the mistake of buying Ektara as a carrier of Lalon's memory. Devotees stand in front of Lalon's sculpture with Ektara and commemorate the Baul Emperor. Various handicrafts are available at the fair, which carry Lalon's tradition. There are numerous shops where Baul musical instruments of different sizes and designs are sold.
You will find the traditional food of Kushtia here, there are numerous traditional food stalls in the premises of Lalon Shah Mazar. The famous sesame paste of Kushtia is available in every stall. Visitors who come here never make a mistake in tasting the traditional food here. Many people from all over the country and abroad participate in the Lalon Memorial Festival and Lalon Fair at Lalon Shah Mazar. Lalon Shah Mazar is considered a symbol of Baul songs, philosophy, humanity and equality. Every year, a three-day grand fair is held on October 16th to mark the death anniversary of Lalon Shah.
