Assalamu alaikum Everyone. I am @imranhassan From #Bangladesh

How are you all? I hope you are well. I am also well by the grace of Allah. In today's post, I will show you a stable 12-volt output from a 24-volt DC supply.

In today's diagram post, I have used the LM7812 voltage regulator. By adding filter capacitors to the input and output and using an LED load, I have checked whether the output voltage is regulated properly using a multimeter. The simulation shows the output as 11.987 V, which is within the normal range of the LM7812.

Parts used and their functionality.

LM7812 – Data Sheet
ParameterValue / Description
Output Voltage (Vout)12V DC
Maximum Input Voltage35V DC
Recommended Input Range14V–30V DC
Output Current1A with heatsink
Dropout Voltage2V – 2.5V minimum
TypeLinear voltage regulator 78xx series
Now I am showing you the five-step diagram connection.

Step -01

1.png

In the first step you can see that I have taken a voltage regulator here through circuit simulation software, which you can see in the picture; it is a symbol picture. Here you can see a model number on the top, and on the left side you can see the input voltage.

Here you can give an input voltage from 24 to 35 volts, and you will get a fixed voltage of 12 volts through this regulator. And on the middle pin you can see the ground symbol, which will be connected to the negative. And on the third pin you can see the out symbol, where a fixed output of 12 volts will be available, so let's arrange it step by step now.

Step -02

2.png

In this step you can see on the far left-hand side I have taken a 24-volt DC power source. Then you can see that I have replaced two capacitors on both sides because I will use capacitors here to smooth both my input voltage and output voltage.

Step -03

3.png

Now you can see that the positive line from the power source I have connected to the input voltage of the voltage regulator and the negative line of the power source I have connected to the ground of the voltage regulator. Then you can see that I have connected a capacitor to the third output of the voltage regulator, and you can see that I have connected the negative of the capacitor to the ground.

Step -04

4.png

Now you can see that on the right-hand side I have replaced a digital multimeter, and here you can see the pure voltage near a DC 12 volts. In the input voltage I have used a 35-volt 100 µF capacitor. And in the output connection I have used a 25-volt 100 µF capacitor. And now you can see that here the multimeter shows a smooth connection, so let's go to the next one.

Step -05

5.png

Now you can see that I have used a power LED in the circuit, and to reduce the voltage from 12 volts so that the LED does not get damaged, I have used a 1K resistance and connected the LED to the circuit simulation and turned on the LED, and the voltage rating is also shown on the digital multimeter.

Here are some things I have to say.

Here you can connect everything practically through circuit simulation, and you can try it here without buying any electronic parts from the market. And here I have shown the circuit diagram and turned on the simulation software; this is how you can get a pure 12-volt voltage output.

Important Note

Although 35V can be input to this voltage regulator, it can get very hot at higher voltages. So the 14V–30V range is the safest and most reliable for using this regulator. Since I have used 24V and 12V, it is completely safe, but if you want, it will be better to use a heatsink. Those of us who will actually use it can use a small heatsink if we want.
