SLC-S29/W1 | Mind & Learn: The Psychology Journey "Control Your Emotions"

Assalamualaikum!

I am Ghias Ahmad from #pakistan and welcome to this post.

We make many decisions every day and all our decisions are made based on our emotions and logic. Every moment in life forces us to take some decision or the other and these decisions are taken on everything from small tasks to big responsibilities. That is why it is very important to have our emotions under our control so that we can take decisions based on correct logic. In today's post, we will shed light on this very thing and I am very grateful of @memamun to organize this contest.

Task 1: Journaling, write your emotions and negative thoughts in a diary, express your thoughts.

Title:

Frustration, trust less ness and failures in my leadership.

Story
I am a student of Veterinary Science and my degree is Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. At the end of the first session in my first year, the teacher gave me an assignment in which we had to submit a set of all the bones of a rabbit to our university by the due date. This task was very easy for us to listen to because we were the only ones who had to submit only one set to the university. While in comparison to us, the boys from other groups had to submit sets of skeletons of large animals such as bulls and horses, so this task was very easy for us, but when we practically performed it, we made many mistakes. Since I was the leader of my group, it was my responsibility to gather my group and get them to do this work. One of our classmates brought a rabbit from the city and after its dice action, we started the work of removing the bones, but we made a mistake that some important bone structure would have been damaged during the dice action process, without which our assignment would have been incomplete. Then we brought another rabbit with which we repeated the previous process, but this time too we lost its rib bones. And we repeated this process three to four times and every time we made some mistake. I was the leader of my team and this work was becoming very difficult for me. One of the reasons for this was that we were assigned this task or assignment during the final papers and that is why we were facing difficulties in preparing the written or theory papers and we did not have much time. After trying three to four times, I had a strange state of mind in which I was a bit angry and depressed that the assignment that we thought was the easiest was the one that was causing the most difficulties because our other classmates had submitted their assignments within two to three days and we had been experimenting for a week. We talked to our teacher about changing our assignment, but the teacher flatly refused, saying that there was no space left for any other assignment, so we would have to submit the same assignment. My group mates wanted something from me because I was the group leader and I was not able to make any right decisions in a hurry and to tell you the truth, I did not understand what to do now. If I give more time to the assignment, then the preparation for the written exams of the entire group will not be possible and if I skip this assignment, it will have a bad effect on the basis of our most important subject of Anatomy.

Thoughts:
  • I was nervous.
  • My quick decisions put us into a trouble.
  • Group mates were disappointed.
  • Things were getting hard.
I approached my teacher for the extension of deadline. I requested the teacher and he gave us this one-week extension for submitting the assignment, after which I took all my group mates to the die section hall and very carefully we caught the newly brought rabbit, anesthetized it and then after that started the process of die sectioning it. This time we used hot water to separate the bones from the muscle and did this work very carefully. We suffered some minor damages but they were ignorable. Then I and my group carefully decorated the structure on the wooden mold and within just four days we submitted our assignment.

Lesson:
From this whole incident, I got to learn this lesson that when a person is acting as a leader, then he is not responsible for himself but also for all the people in his entire team. Therefore, a leader should act very carefully, should not make decisions in the past and should do his work very seriously because in the first two die section processes, I and my group were not very serious and we lost a lot of our money in a joke. Therefore, I got a big lesson from this that teamwork done with full planning, preparation and passion is always successful.

Task 2: Mind setup, take a favorite book, continue reading on a topic and write in detail about that topic after finishing the reading. Let us know what book you are reading and take a picture.

A favorite book "Psychology" that I often read whenever I get time because it is based on the knowledge of human psychology. This is a book that not only teaches us how we can recognize ourselves, recognize our own behaviors, and based on our behaviors, we can create changes in our field, our environment, and our mental state, but we can also know the behaviors of the people around us. This book is not mine, but I borrow it from a library every time, but the good thing is that whenever I feel like reading this book, it is easily available to me.

This book has many chapters and each chapter teaches something new. For example, when you open this book, the first chapter gives an introduction to the world of psychology called the Law of Nature or the Law of Effect, in which we realize how we depend on nature. Apart from this, as we read this book, we begin to understand psychology.

The seventh chapter of this book became a center of great interest for me, the picture of which you can see now. It describes the human intelligence, its thinking process, and the effect of the environment on thinking and action. This chapter is also a bit of a complication because some aspects of neuroscience are also described. Then, neurotransmitters that are present between two neurons are also mentioned in it. This means that the chemistry of the brain, biology, and psychology are all described in the same chapter.

This is the book that has helped me understand my own emotions and to some extent, predict people's behavior when talking to them. I have only read a small part of it, but I hope that after completing it, I will learn enough things that will not only be useful to me in my own field, but will also help me learn new things in my practical life. This is why this book, no matter what stage you are at, what degree you hold, or what profession you are in, will definitely help you in some way.

Task 3: Read the story mentioned above and express your own opinion.

First of all, let's try to understand this situation very clearly. What I have understood is that a country goes into famine because a civil war starts. Now, a civil war is a war that does not happen with any other country. It actually starts between the people of a country or between the people and politicians or between the people and the army or between the army and politicians as some wars happened in south Asia last year. In other words, a war breaks out between people within the boundaries of a country. Now, due to this civil war, a great conflict increases in the country. But the powerful people are busy showing their power while the common people are traveling. At the same time, a person named Kabria raises his voice, with which the common people join in becoming protesters and those people start negotiating with the powerful people, from which it is decided that food and clothes should be sold at a low price so that this captivity can be survived for a long time. At the same time, Haroon, who was a businessman, refuses to be a part of this negotiation and He starts selling clothes and food at a high price. After some time, when the famine is at its peak, a disease starts spreading, due to which Haroon's son gets infected and no doctor is ready to treat him at any cost, due to which his son loses his life. This is the story that I have understood. Now let's see where the problems are in it and what is their solution.

The first thing that struck me strange about this whole story was that when Kabria had raised her voice and the general public had joined her, instead of doing anything to stop the famine, the civil war, these people started devising a plan to endure the famine for a long time, which is a very strange thing. It was like a person who is sick, but instead of finding a cure for his illness, he takes painkillers every day so that he does not suffer. What should have happened here was that people would have come together and raised a voice that could stop the famine and civil war. This should have been the purpose of their protest.

As for Harun, he is a businessman and the businessman took advantage of the opportunity and started selling his goods at a higher price. This was completely wrong and it was like rubbing salt in the wounds of the people and isolating himself from society. But when his own son fell ill, he was ready to sacrifice everything but no doctor treated him due to which his son died. This incident shows that people have lost their sense of justice. As for Haroon, he was a businessman. There could have been some other method of punishment for the mistake he made, but people ignored it, on the basis of which his innocent son died. This thing creates social disorder, although the doctors should have treated his son completely and judged Haroon for his mistake according to their laws.

The Conclusion:
  • The people and Kabira should have raised their voices to prevent civil war, not only to suffer the femine.

  • Haroon should not have sold his goods at a high price and helped his people.

  • The doctors should have treated his innocent son. Even if Haroon had taken a wrong step in society, his son should not have been punished for it.

Task 4: Create an infographic on the five steps of emotion control.

1. Take a pause before reacting
Before reacting to any matter, think a little and wait for a while because this not only enables us to understand the situation correctly but also protects us from immediate and wrong reactions. Because every aspect of our life is like a reaction of action and reaction.

2. Detach from Drama
There are many places in life where the emotions of the other person are so strong that we fall into the trap of those emotions with great conviction, so we should also try to give the emotions the right direction and understand them well, whether the emotions of the other person or his words are actually correct or that person wants to use emotions to bring us into his words.

3. Focus on logic
By focusing on logic, we not only reach the truth but also understand the situation very clearly. I would like to give a small example of this.

Example:
For example, you are part of a political meeting where a politician accuses another politician that votes should not be given to another politician because that person does not pray. I have only taken this example. Now we understand what the accusation that has been made against him that he does not pray is like. First of all, not praying is a sin and it is a wrong thing to do, but it has nothing to do with a person's political activities. The first politician is describing the act of not praying as a weakness in the political life of a politician because he himself wants to get votes on this pretext. So there is nothing logical in it that deprives a person of the right to vote because he does not pray. This is called logical fallacy and it is a very famous ad hominem logical fallacy.

4. Reframe Thoughts
The next step is to reframe your thoughts. Think about what you have heard from the person in front of you once in your mind. Do not include any emotional aspect in it, but be logical and think logically, with which you can control your emotions.

5. Practice Mindfulness
Finally, practice all these things with a very calm mind because practice is what makes any activity of a person perfect.
