In front of the Itakhola Mura

What kind of City Landmark Zone have you visited? Briefly introduce it.

Itakhola Mura is a very important place among the historical and archaeological monuments of the Comilla district. It is located in the Kotbari area of Comilla, which contains various monuments of ancient civilizations. Since I have been interested in history since childhood, I was quite fascinated to learn about this place. Itakhola Mura is basically the ruins of a Buddhist monastery, which is a shining example of the ancient history and culture of our country. It is a Buddhist monastery of the seventh or eighth decade.

The architectural style of Itakhola Mura is very interesting. Excavations here have found traces of various rooms, walls, paths, and brick structures. These indicate that it was a well-planned structure. Each part had a specific use; some rooms may have been used for monks' accommodation, some rooms for religious worship, and some places for educational activities. Such planned construction is a testament to the architectural skills of that time. Itakhola is an ancient Buddhist temple. Buddhists from different countries of the world used to come here to preach their religion.

How were the services and history both inside and outside? (With pictures + prices, videos)

The environment inside the Itkhola Mura is very quiet and peaceful. There is a kind of natural beauty here with trees and open spaces around. The brickwork, the arrangement of the rooms, and the traces of the old walls show how beautiful and planned the structure was once. With the evolution of time, the Buddhist temples went underground. Red brick walls can be found as a sign inside the Lalmai Hills of Comilla district.

Itakhola Mura Information

The historical aspect is the most important here. Itakhola Mura is basically the ruins of an ancient Buddhist monastery. It is believed that it was built between the 7th and 12th centuries, when Buddhism was very influential in the region. At that time, such monasteries were not only places of religious worship, but also used as centers of education. The small rooms are decorated with gold and various types of furniture used by Buddhists, which are kept in the museum by the Bangladesh Archaeological Department.

Entry ticket

After excavation, many rooms, walls, and brick structures were found here, which suggests that it was a well-organized structure. Here, monks lived, meditated, and taught students. The entire place was a kind of center of education and spirituality. In addition, many Buddhist statues are found here. The ancient brick structure is surrounded by Lalmai Hills and a multitude of greenery. You can understand this by watching my video record.

What is the demand for tourists inside and outside the place?

Since the Itkhola Mura site is basically an archaeological site, tourists who come here are interested in knowing its history. Those who love to know about history, old structures, or Buddhist civilization come here and wander around with great interest. Especially, school and college students and researchers come here more. They try to imagine the ancient lifestyle by looking at the brickwork, the layout of the rooms, and the ruins. I live in Comilla city, so I visited the place during the Eid holidays.

Itakhola Mura is located in the Kotbari area of Comilla, where Shalban Vihar is located nearby. Since Shalban Vihar is a very popular tourist destination, many tourists who come there also visit the neighboring Itakhola Mura. As a result, the presence of tourists in the outer areas is relatively high.

I left home at around 9 am and reached at 10 am. The morning atmosphere was very beautiful with light sunshine, cool breeze, and green trees all around. After purchasing a ticket for ten taka and entering, the first thing that caught my eye was the ancient brickwork. These are basically the most important historical landmarks of this place. I looked closely and realized that each brick was placed with great care, which reveals the advanced architectural knowledge of that time. Being on the top of the hill, I could see the beauty of the hill.

I went on a trip following the guidelines of the Archaeological Department.

In the afternoon, I take a break and enjoy the surroundings. Then I notice that many students have come in groups. They are taking notes, taking pictures, and learning the history of this place from their teachers. I am very happy to see this, because the new generation is getting to know about their history. There is a place for tourists to rest in front of the Buddhist monastery. In the afternoon, I visit two more archaeological sites and return.
