Among the natural beauty of Bangladesh, there are some places, which fill the mind of people with a strange tranquility even from the noise of the city. One such place is Mohanpur Rubber Dam. It is not only a water control system, but also a unique sight for local people and an ideal place to spend time with nature.Although the Mohanpur Rubber Dam was built many years ago, its importance remains intact even today. It was originally designed to conserve water for agriculture and improve irrigation systems. When the river rises during the rainy season, this dam controls the water and the stored water is used by the farmers during the dry season. As a result, this dam is not only important from an engineering point of view, but also deeply connected to the local economy.

My 24-hour experience at the Mohanpur Rubber Dam was like a slowly unfolding story where nature, history and human life intertwine.When we reach there in the morning, the whole place is covered in fog. A light breeze blows over the dam, and the slow flow of water below seems to witness time in silence. As the Prothom-alo of the sun falls on the water, the old structure of the dam becomes apparent. The signs of age in some parts of the rubber gates, light corrosion and rust in the old iron parts all these tell how many years of history this place carries. Nearby, some old concrete pillars and manual water control systems are still standing, showing the important role they once played.

In the morning local fishermen come out with boats. Talking to them, it is known that since the construction of this dam, the amount of fish has increased and their livelihood has changed. On one side of the dam is an old observatory, now largely out of use, but it also stands as a historical monument. The paint on the walls has faded, but the inner structure still remains as if memories of the past cling to it.The exterior of the place becomes most lively during the afternoon. People started coming, especially families and young people. There are small shops, tea stalls around - all in all, a small fair takes place.
