A tough choice =/= Die Qual der Wahl 👹🍣🎎 Wonderful Japan ENG-GER

I have mentioned that I had to change my car, since it had accumulated too much rust to pass the next car inspection. There was no rational way to avoid looking for a new car, but since I wasn't sure, how long I will continue living here in Japan I didn't want to spend to much for a replacement. After all I am living from year to year and I don't know whether I will still be here next summer.

Anyways, after looking around and checking our some cars at some car shops it came down to two cars between I had to decide. Both were of the same maker and the same model, and also of kind of the same age and mileage. And interestingly also of almost the same color. Kind of funny huh?!

But of course there were some differences. One car was a bit cheaper and even had a few more features. It had a navigation system with rear parking camera. And it was key-less, that means for starting the engine I only need to press a button. And from the outside it also looked a bit cooler, with fog lights and such stuff.

The other car, which was a little more expensive somehow looked a bit cleaner inside. It was supposed to be a non-smoking car, even though the dealer didn't know who was the last owner. It had no special features, like the ones I just mentioned for the first car. No navi, just an ordinary CD-player and also just an old-fashioned physical key. And from the outside it looked rather ordinary and simple.

Maybe for most of you the decision would have been easy, but not for me. I had a few reason and things to consider, and if I am honest I don't car too much about gimmicks and gadgets. I just wanted to by a cheap and reliable car that gets me from point A to point B. And which won't break down and need repair anytime soon or even better never at all.

And as more things you have in your car, as more might need some fixing at some point. Especially if the car is a bit older, as in my case. With my budget I was looking for cars between 12 and 13 years, which hopefully will have another two or even four years of lifespan have left. So actually nothing fancy, just a car.

And one of my concerns was that start button, which I somehow don't like. I definitely prefer that ordinary old-style metallic key, which you insert and twist to start the engine. I can't really explain why, but I trust it more and feel it might be more reliable.

I don't know whether it all makes sense, but that's why I ended up thinking which car would be the better choice. At first I couldn't make up my mind, but eventually I didn't had to. The "cooler" car was sold soon and I was left with only one option.

Not sure if I was happy with that, but maybe it was a sign. And hopefully the right sign, because now I am going for the "uncool" car, which has my "beloved" key. We will see, how that turns out, but if that car brings me safely everywhere I want to go and at the end of the day back home again, I will be fully happy and satisfies. In the end, that was all I was looking for!

Ich habe ja bereits erwähnt, dass ich mein Auto wechseln musste, da es zu viel Rost hatte, um die nächste Hauptuntersuchung zu bestehen. Ich hatte daher keine andere Wahl, als mir ein neues Auto zu suchen, aber da ich nicht sicher war, wie lange ich noch hier in Japan bin, wollte ich dafür dann auch nicht zu viel ausgeben. Im Augenblick lebe ich von Jahr zu Jahr und weiß nicht, ob ich nächsten Sommer auch noch hier sein werde.

Nachdem ich mich ein wenig umgesehen und mir einige Autos angeschaut hatte, musste ich mich zwischen zweien entscheiden. Beide waren vom gleichen Hersteller und vom gleichen Modell und hatten auch ungefähr das gleiche Alter und die gleiche Kilometerleistung. Interessanterweise hatten sie auch fast die gleiche Farbe. Irgendwie lustig, oder?

Aber natürlich gab es auch einige Unterschiede. Ein Auto war etwas günstiger und hatte sogar ein paar mehr Ausstattungsmerkmale. Es hatte ein Navigationssystem mit Rückfahrkamera. Und es war schlüssellos, das heißt, zum Starten des Motors musste ich nur einen Knopf drücken. Und von außen sah es mit Nebelscheinwerfern und so weiter auch etwas cooler aus.

Das andere Auto, das etwas teurer war, sah innen irgendwie etwas sauberer aus. Es war wohl ein Nichtraucherfahrzeug, obwohl der Händler nicht wusste, wer der letzte Besitzer war. Es hatte keine besonderen Ausstattungsmerkmale, wie die, die ich gerade für das erste Auto erwähnt habe. Kein Navi, nur ein gewöhnlicher CD-Player und auch nur ein altmodischer physischer Schlüssel. Und von außen sah es eher gewöhnlich und schlicht aus.

Den meisten von euch wäre die Entscheidung vielleicht leicht gefallen, aber mir nicht. Ich hatte meine Gründe, und wenn ich ehrlich bin, interessieren mich Gimmicks und Gadgets nicht sonderlich. Ich wollte einfach nur ein günstiges und zuverlässiges Auto, das mich von A nach B bringt. Und das nicht so schnell kaputtgeht und nicht so schnell repariert werden muss, oder besser noch, gar nicht.

Und je mehr Dinge man in seinem Auto hat, desto mehr könnten irgendwann reparaturbedürftig sein. Vor allem, wenn das Auto etwas älter ist, wie in meinem Fall. Mit meinem Budget war ich auf der Suche nach Autos zwischen 12 und 13 Jahren, die hoffentlich noch zwei oder sogar vier Jahre halten würden. Also eigentlich nichts Ausgefallenes, einfach nur ein Auto.

Und eines meiner Probleme war dieser Startknopf, den ich irgendwie nicht mag. Ich bevorzuge definitiv den gewöhnlichen Metallschlüssel im alten Stil, den man einsteckt und dreht, um damit den Motor zu starten. Ich kann nicht wirklich erklären, warum, aber ich vertraue dem einfach mehr.

Ich weiß nicht, ob das alles Sinn ergibt. Aber ich war nun am überlegen, welches Auto die bessere Wahl wäre. Zuerst konnte ich mich nicht entscheiden, aber schließlich musste ich es auch nicht. Das „coolere” Auto wurde bald verkauft, und mir blieb nur noch eine Option.

Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich darüber froh war, aber vielleicht war es ja ein Zeichen. Und hoffentlich dann auch das richtige Zeichen, denn jetzt wird es nun das „uncoole” Auto, das dafür meinen „geliebten” Schlüssel hat. Wir werden sehen, wie sich das entwickelt, aber wenn dieses Auto mich dann immer sicher überall hinbringt, wo ich hin möchte, und am Ende des Tages aich wieder sicher nach Hause, wird mich das wohl glücklich und zufrieden machen. Und letztendlich ist das doch genau das, was ich wollte!
