Hello steemians, indeed pictures tell a thousand stories, today I join you all as I share this amazing photo that clearly shows the culture of the Yoruba people, the yoruba people are known to be good at dressing, this is a tribe that is also amongst the three major ethnic groups which are the Igbo, Hausa, and the Yoruba.

Yoruba cultural attire

I took this photo during the cultural day celebration at the 245 Battalion Model School. The showcase of each culture by the students was exciting, as they talked about the origin, dress, food, beliefs, and ways of life of each culture.

The class that presented the Yoruba culture was Nursery 2; the students were out in their numbers, all just for the Yoruba culture. The Yoruba men are known for dressing in their agbada, which is a wide, flowing gown worn over (Bùbá) an inner top and trousers, which are called "Ṣọ̀rọ̀". This is known to be the most popular attire worn by the Yoruba men, this attire shows the value the Yoruba men have for their culture, their accuracy, and their respect for elders.

The Yoruba men also wear what is known as Fila (Cap), you would never see a Yoruba man put on his agbada and bùbá without the fila, a cap which looks like a fallen or broken tower. The Fila completes the Yoruba man's dressing. The Yoruba greet their elders by lying down on the floor.

Our culture our heritage

The Yoruba women also dress extremely well, they dress in their iro, which is a wrapper that is tied around the waist. They also wear Bùbá, which is a loose blouse that women wear on the upper body. The Yoruba women's dress is never complete without their gele, a head tie, which is stylish and large, it brings out the submissiveness to their husbands.

The Yoruba women kneel while they greet elders, especially Chiefs, in-laws, and highly respected people in the society. They kneel greeting saying;

“Ẹ káàrọ̀” – Good morning

“Ẹ káàsán”

“Ẹ káalẹ́” – Good evening

The Yoruba people are absolute class with fashion and behavior, they are known to be academically inclined individuals, making sure that their offspring attend school to higher institutions.
