Steemit Learning Challenge-S27W6; Physiofit; Case Study 2 Challenge
Hello, everyone; we are here to share the Challenge for the 6th and final week of the Steemit Learning Challenge season 27. I am grateful to all the users who participated in the previous season and supported my previous course, and thankful to the Steemit team for this opportunity again. I invite all users to share their unique participation and strive to earn good grades to be selected as the winner of the Steemit Learning Challenge, Season 27, Week 6.
Case Study
Last week I shared the challenge in which users have to share a case scenario, then causes, symptoms and diagnosis of the disease but till now out of 10 participation 5 participant share the same case study disease and not try to share a new case, it's causes, symptoms and diagnostic criteria. So, I am sharing the task again as most of the users didn't understand the task and share the same disease in the case study.
So, this week again, I will share a case study in which we will discuss a disease, its symptoms, causes, and the physiotherapy protocol to cure it. But your challenge would be to find another disease and diagnose that. After that, you have to share the further details like symptoms, causes, and treatment protocol.
Case
A 52-year-old office worker presented with a 5-month history of shoulder pain and stiffness. He presented with a symptoms of difficulty in overhead activities and internal rotation of shoulder joint. The patient symptoms aggravates with overhead activities. Patient's symptoms are relieved after rest and taking medication.
Causes
The common causes of rotator cuff tendonitis are below:
- Overuse or repetitive use of the shoulder joint
- Sudden trauma or injury to the shoulder joint
- Can also occur due to sports participation like tennis, swimming and other such sports.
- Agr-related wear and tear of the shoulder region
- Can also occur in people with poor ergonomics or posture.
Symptoms
The common symptoms shown in rotator cuff tendonitis patients are:
- Pain and tenderness on the affected shoulder and upper arm.
- Sometimes swelling or redness if the tendon gets inflamed.
- Sometimes Weakness or fatigue due to a reduction in strength in the shoulder.
- Feeling of clicking or snapping sensation in the shoulder joint while moving.
- Reduction in range of motion due to stiffness in the shoulder region.
Diagnosis
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis diagnosis can be made by different methods, but commonly used are:
- History taking about family, occupation, past medical, and surgical history.
- A thorough physical examination by a physician or physical therapist.
- X-ray, Ultrasound and MRI to assess arthritis, any tendon ruptures, and muscle damage, respectively.
- We will also perform arthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure to diagnose rotator cuff tendonitis.
Special Tests
In physiotherapy, we perform some special tests to confirm the diagnosis.
- Neer Test
- This is the test performed to assess the subacromial impingement.
- Hawkins Kennedy Test
- This test is also performed to assess the impingement in the shoulder region.
- Speed Test
- This test is performed to assess the biceps tendon pathology or tear.
- Yergason Test
- This test is performed to also assess the biceps tendon pathology or tear.
Physical Therapy Intervention for Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Physical therapy interventions for rotator cuff tendonitis for days to weeks to regain normal range of motion or performing activities of daily living, and subside the symptoms. Here are a few exercise videos that you have to perform to treat rotator cuff tendonitis patients. Treatment of rotator cuff tendonitis are scapular squeeze, Cross body shoulder stretch, wall slides, shoulder isometric exercises including heat therapy in chronic stage and cold therapy in acute.
But the main thing is you have to evaluate the exact cause of rotator cuff tendonitis, and its stage as well because treatment protocol varies from stage to stage, whether it's due to overuse or trauma. We can treat this condition completely with physical therapy, but sometimes surgical intervention is required if further damage occurs to tendons.
- Task 1: You have to find a case study like I have shared but not the same disease, then confirm the diagnosis of the disease, add 3 to 4 causes.
- Task 2: You have to share symptoms of your patient history and confirm that diagnoses of the given cases study. .
- Task 3: You have to find the best protocol for any disease and then perform the exercises of your specific task. It would be better to perform the exercises and share videos or pictures while performing and then review after getting treatment. (Try to use 3 methods).
Note
I didn't ask you to share the given diagnosis in the challenge post, you have to find another disease and then share all the details including physical therapy management.
