Steemit Learning Challenge-S27W6; Physiofit; Case Study 2 Challenge

Hello, @ashkhan, I am very excited that we have come to the final week of season 27. I appreciate you for this engaging challenge; it has been a fantastic way to expand my knowledge and deepen my understanding of physiotherapy through real-world case analysis.

Case

A 50-year-old blogger and tech bro named Nsijoro visited a clinic and complained of a sharp, shooting pain from his upper vertebrae region, precisely the neck region. This pain radiates to his left arm and hand. This discomfort started after a three-week writing session and sitting session to complete Steemit challenges. This pain worsens whenever he turns his head to the left or tries looking up for a short period; he feels a little numbness in his forearm, and holding a device to write becomes difficult.

Causes

  • A prolonged forward head movement and unconscious poor head positioning when focusing on the screen.

  • In general, ageing: with an age above 35, the wearing and tearing of neck bones occurs, and the side joint grows bones which narrow the nerve holes, causing cervical radiculopathy.

  • Typing and staring at the screen while writing are both directional movements; as this becomes repetitive on the neck disc, they damage slowly. In general, we can call this repetitive strain.

  • A sudden head turn after conditioning my head to an up-and-down head movement of typing and staring at a screen – in general, a sudden neck position change.

Symptoms

From the sudden case of the illness, Nsijoro encountered the symptoms.

  • Nsijoro actually felt a very sharp and shooting pain from the upper part of the vertebral column (cervical region), and this pain radiates to the arm and to the hand.

  • This pain worsens whenever he turns his head left or right, since an overly grown bone has pressed the neck nerve.

  • Numbness is felt in the left arm.

  • It started after bad sitting, and it persisted for 3 weeks.

  • Handset/phone becomes very hard to hold for a long time.

Diagnosis

Determining the type of disease encountered requires the following.

  • I didn't need to check the family history, but looking at his nature of work as a blogger who types all day and a past medical history, of which he told me that he had encountered once when he worked for a long time on his PC.

  • I made a physical examination of trying to turn his neck to see how far it can turn without experiencing pain.

  • If possible in other cases where an X-ray is accessed, X-rays can be done to see if the bone has ruptured to cause this or if a shift in these bones has pressed the nerve.

Special Test

  • MRI can be carried out on the patient to check which part of the cervical bone compresses against the neck nerve.
  • A CT scan can also help to capture the vertebra that outgrows or ruptures.

Diagnosis Confirmation

After the few symptoms Nsijoro experienced with the symptoms and region in which this pain was felt, that is, the upper neck region (cervical region), and the fact that this pain radiates to his arm region, I concluded that he is suffering from the disease Cervical Radiculopathy.

Physical Therapy Intervention for Cervical Radiculopathy

The following physiotherapy exercises could be performed to enable a complete rotation of the cervical region. The exercises I was able to perform to give me relief in the rotation of my neck were.

  • Isometric Neck Extension
  • Isometric Neck Retraction
  • Upper Trapezius Stretch
  • Isometric Neck Rotation

A portrait format of the physiotherapy video is uploaded for a broad and clearer view on the Steemit IPFS.

I wouldn't want to participate alone in this last week, so I will call on @max-pro, @ngoenyi and @vivigibelis to join me

Task 1 (2.5/2.5)You have shared a great knowledge about the case study, sharing the diagnosis and causes of the disease. That's good you chose any other disease and share the details with us. I am glad that you shared your great knowledge.
Task 2 (1.35/1.5)You shared the right symptoms of patient that lead to final diagnosis of Cervical Radiculopathy, but with investigations and one stretch you have to perform a test called compression test, spurling test to confirm the diagnosis as you don't have any x ray yet.
Task 3 (5.5/6)You have chose the good exercises to reduce the cervical radiculopathy pain, also improve muscle function but you forget the most important and main exercise stretching of nerves of the patient like ulnar, median or radial nerve to relieve pain earlier. I appreciate your efforts. Best of luck.
Total Grade9.35/10

Nsijoro sorry about your next pain. You have carried out the necessary tests. With your findings , you gained insight into how to go about the treatment. Nsijoro with his type of work as a blogger will need to be going for regular exercise because so long as his type of job is concerned, he will likely keep having such pain.

You have done a great job in your diagnosis. Success to you

Thank you so much ma for the advice, I will regularly practice some exercise, I am actually working on some now, maybe with time I will join a fitness group for coaching.

Saludos apreciado amigo. Es bastante compleja la patología que nos presentas
Y has abordado muy bien el procedimiento de diagnóstico y tratamiento
Bendiciones para ti

Cervical Radiculopathy is actually a bit complex but I had to explain that far because it's rampant among people who carry heavy load or sit for long, like right now I am sitting up 11:58 pm Nigerian time, 23:58 UTC trying to put somethings up, thanks for reading me, I hope you participated as well.. what diseases did you treat with Physiotherapy
