RE: STEEM-POCALYPSE SURVIVAL GAME CONTEST - SEASON 6 DAY 3 ROUND 1 - 200 SBD PRIZE POOL SO FAR
I choose option 3. I have knife, a pistol with 8 ammo, and I need to eat prior to the end of day 4.
I cannot for the life of me think of a reason to go to a pawn shop; I already have weapons, and I could eat weeds. I reckon many of the stuff in a pawn shop requires electrity or has collectors of spot value like silver and gold. But this is a doner party type situation, and stuff like that is worthless. Maybe it could prove useful after I exit the city, and assuming there is a civilization left in the world. But for now silver/gold/platinum is just dead weight. A sporting good store sounds extremely tempting as they might carry tents, knapsacks, sterno, kerosene lamps, swiss army knives, protein bars, fishing gear, and other survivalist gear-as well as sports related protection gear and running shoes, or hiking boots, and basic first aid kits. but then they may also sell guns, hunting knives, body armor, protective gear, etc that could end the game for me. It may be suicide to go in, but I think I need gear. I have a pistol if push comes to shove-not that it helped people last round. There is likely better stuff on the second floor, assuming that is used for warehousing. At the same time, if the building is being used for shelter, people would most likely hide on the second floor and if I went up there they may feel like a trapped animal who has no choice but to shoot me the invader. At least by just visiting the first floor of the store they may think I am a customer, even if it may cause my demise.
"During the closing days of December, 1846, gold was found in my mother's cabin at Donner Lake by John Denton. I remember the night well. The storm fiends were shrieking in their wild mirth, we were sitting about the fire in our little dark home, busty with our thoughts. Denton with his cane kept knocking pieces off the large rocks used as fire-irons on which to place the wood. Something bright attracted his attention, and picking up pieces of the rock he examined them closely; then turning to my mother he said: 'Mrs. Reed, this is gold.' My mother replied that she wished it were bread. Denton knocked more chips from the rocks, and he hunted in the ashes for the shining particles until he had gathered about a teaspoonful. This he tied in a small piece of buckskin and placed in his pocket saying, 'If we ever get away from here I am coming back for more.'"

Fascinating piece of history here. @ironshield
That is a fantastic discussion. It closely mirrors what I've been pondering for the riddle of this round. If anyone is hiding I would think the first floors are going to be not desirable for a number of reasons, not least the sewer problem.
