Rashed goes to school wearing the same broken shoes every day. One side of the shoe is torn, and it makes a noise when he walks. His friends laugh a lot, some even poke him. Rashed endures it silently because he knows that his father cannot afford to buy new shoes. One day, an announcement is made at school that the student who gets the best results will be given a prize. Rashed thinks that if he gets the prize, maybe his father will be able to buy him new shoes. He studies hard day and night. Even when his friends call him to play, he doesn't go. On the exam day, he enters the hall with confidence wearing his broken shoes. The day of the results comes. The teacher announces in front of everyone that Rashed has come first. Everyone claps. The teacher presents him with new shoes. Rashed starts crying with the shoes in his hand. The teacher is surprised and asks,Why are you crying? Rashed says,Sir, these shoes are not just for my feet, they are for my self-respect.
