Two Champions: Perth Scorchers Dominate the BBL and Sunrisers Eastern Cape Win SA20

Hello, fellow Sports Enthusiasts,

Well, at the start of 2026, we could witness the final moments of two quality franchise leagues from opposite sides of the world. Perth Scorchers once again proved their dominance in Australia by winning the Big Bash League 2025-2026, while Sunrisers Eastern Cape lifted the SA20 trophy in South Africa. Just before the T20I World Cup, most of the players had a perfect warm-up in a high-intensity tournament.

Perth Scorchers won the Big Bash League 2025-26

Well, it was the 15th season of the tournament, which started in 2011. This was played from 14 December 2025 to 25 January 2026, with the usual setup and the usual 8 teams.
Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars, Brisbane Heat, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Thunder
After 40 group stage games, the Scorchers, Sixers, Hurricanes, and Stars moved to the next round in order. Scorchers moved directly, defeating the Sixers in the qualifier I, and then the Sixers got the chance, beatingthe Hurricanes in the qualifier II.

So, we could see a battle between the two most successful teams in the entire BBL, and also in this season.

And Perth Scorchers easily lifted the trophy once again, proving their dominance in the league. Now they have 6 titles, with 9 appearances in the finals. Well, they have built an empire, haven't they? On the other hand, the Sixers are three-time champions with 8 appearances.

Most Runs

We saw amazing batting performance, with consistency, as well as clutch performance from some. Finn Allen led the chart with 466 runs, with 38 6s and a hundred. As you see, even after retirement, David Warner is showing his class, being the second-highest run scorer, and scoring 2 hundreds. Overall, 9 hundreds were scored in this season.

Most Wickets

Haris Rauf was amazing with 20 wickets at an average of 16.70. We could see just one fifer from Jack Edwards. Another retiree, Peter Siddle, highlighted not only taking wickets but crossing 140 continuously, even at the age of 41.
David Payne became the man of the match in the final, while Sam Harper became the man of the series.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the SA20, 2025-26

Well, this was the fourth season of the SA20, which took place from 26 December 2025 to 25 January 2026, with 6 teams.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, Joburg Super Kings, Durban's Super Giants, MI Cape Town

The format was the same as the BBL. After 30 group stage games, the Sunrisers, Capitals, Royals, and Super Kings moved to the next round in order. Capitals defeated the Sunrises in the qualifier I to seal their spot in the finals, and then the Sunrises got the chance, beating the Royals in the qualifier II.

Points table

In a thrilling match, Sunrises once again became the champions chasing the target in the final over. Actually, it's the same franchise as Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL.

Well, out of four seasons now, they have won three and become the runners-up in the last year. MI Cape Town is the only other champion,

Most runs

Well, they are promising and familiar names. De Kock leads the list with 390 runs, and the youngster Brevis is right beside him. There were 4 hundreds where Ryan Rickelton grabbed two from it.

Most Wickets

Ottneil Baartman of South Africa took 20 wickets at an amazing average of 13.65 to top the list. Only one fifer also came from him.
Dewald Brevis became the man of the match in the final, while Quinton de Kock became the man of the series.
