Recreation and Fun Spaces

To get rid of the boredom of busy life and spend some time close to nature, we all find some kind of entertainment center. Basically, every day I travel to my workplace or for various needs through the main road near the banks of this beautiful lake. This wonderful view catches my eye on my daily commute. Today, focusing on this contest, I am presenting in detail about this famous Shaheed Smrani Lake and the wonderful restaurants next to the lake on my daily, familiar route.

The main attraction of my expedition today is a very beautiful and well-known place located inside the city of Dhaka—Shahid Sharani Lake. Right next to this peaceful lake, a beautiful restaurant and entertainment center has been built, called Cafe & Boat Club.

• Transportation: Being in the heart of Dhaka city, it is very easy to get here. From any part of Mirpur, Kalshi, Uttara, or Kuril, you can go directly to ECB Square by bus, CNG, rickshaw, or your own bike or car. There is a huge green signboard of the club on the sidewalk next to the main road of Zia Colony Road, which anyone can easily recognize as the place.

Environment and Description:

This place is managed by the Dhaka Cantonment Authority. As soon as you enter from the main road, you will see a huge lake and tall residential buildings in the background. There are large shade trees, beautifully landscaped gardens, and beautiful red-colored flowers all around the lake, which make the environment incredibly refreshing.

Facilities:

I think that innumerable people walk and exercise on the shady walkway made of beautiful blocks next to the lake every day to keep their bodies healthy and fresh. There is a spacious courtyard made of beautiful red bricks and gallery-like stairs on the lake bank for sitting. There is a good arrangement for small boats tied to the jetty to sail on the lake water. In addition, the club has a beautiful open-air deck, which is surrounded by steel railings and where beautiful glass-top tables are arranged. According to the club's signboard, bookings for any kind of event are also taken here.

Tickets & Schedules:

No ticket is required for entry or general walking on this lake bank. It is usually open from dawn to dusk for exercisers and from dusk to 10 pm for the entertainment of visitors.

Product Costs & Payment:

The Cafe and Boat Club has a variety of delicious food and refreshments. Starting from light snacks, tea, coffee, and juices to heavy lunch or dinner meals, the cost per person is usually between 250 and 500 taka. Cash and mobile banking (BKash/Nagad) are accepted as payment.

Regulations:

Since it is controlled by the army, the security system here is very strict, and the army is always deployed for security. It is completely prohibited to throw any kind of garbage outside the designated dustbins, and since the water in the lake is deep, extra caution has to be taken while driving the boat.

4. Your personal experience and the service you received.

I travel along the main road along the banks of this lake every day. When I went here today, a strangely beautiful and emotional scene caught my eye. I saw a father and his young son walking together on the shady path paved with blocks. After walking for a long time, the boy became very tired at one point. Then, sitting on the bank of the lake, the father was wiping the sweat from his son with utmost compassion. Seeing this selfless love of the father for his child, my heart was touched in an instant.

The environment here is always very safe due to the strict surveillance of the army. On top of that, seeing such a beautiful family moment creates a kind of positive energy in myself. After walking, sitting on the glass table on the deck of the club built right above the lake, having a light snack while looking at the distant red bridge and calm water removes all my fatigue of the day.

1. Tell us the "secret" to having a really good time at this place.

---

In my opinion, the real secret to having a great time here is to rent a boat and go to the middle of the lake in the afternoon, when the shadows of the surrounding trees fall on the water. Floating on the deep water in the boat, looking at the surrounding green nature and the red brick banks, and then sitting on the deck by the lake and sipping a cup of special steaming coffee—this combination is the real secret to calming the mind.

2. If this place had a warning sign at the entrance made by you, what funny or humorous rule would it say?

---

If I had the chance to hang a funny sign at the entrance to this park and boat club, I would have written, Strict warning! After entering, it is strictly forbidden to check your mechanical life's work tension and mobile phone notifications. Those who just stare at their phone screens instead of seeing the beautiful colorful flowers and the wonderful nature of the lake will have to do 10 push-ups in a row in front of the on-duty army brothers as punishment!

3. Tell us about a blooper or funny moment you or a friend experienced at this place.

I will share a personal experience: Once, a friend of mine came to this lakeside walkway with great enthusiasm, wearing a jogger dress and expensive sneakers, to exercise with everyone. After walking on the track for just 2 minutes, he panted and sat straight on a chair on the deck of the boat club and ordered a pile of heavy snacks and cold drinks!

When we asked him, You have come to lose weight, so why are you eating so much food? He replied with a very serious face, Hey, you have to maintain discipline in the army area. If you walk around on an empty stomach, what if the army brothers catch you and ask you to run around the entire red brick square on the lakeside as punishment? So I am taking energy backup first!"

This strange logic of his still makes us laugh a lot.

4. If you had an unlimited budget and could add one crazy and amazing game or attraction to this place, what would you add to make it even more fun?

---

If I had an unlimited budget, I would build a huge Floating Trampoline & Water Obstacle Course on the deep waters of Shaheed Smrani Lake! Where people coming for exercise in the morning or visitors coming for a walk in the afternoon can jump and jump to their heart's content without fear of falling into the water. They wear life jackets, and if they lose their balance, they will fall into the safe water. This would provide extreme adventure and laughter in a calm, familiar environment, surrounded by strict security.
