I really agree that it would be great to have a more focused platform, although I see both positive and negative sides of introducing a new token. On Steemit, STEEM ==> Steem Power ==> Influence + More Steem. STEEM has value not just because it can be used to get more STEEM, but because it is a means of reaching the masses, so instead of an advertiser paying YouTube to get views on an ad, you pay someone who has earnt STEEM to get influence through your post. I'm afraid that by introducing more focused tokens, their value will be less definable, since they're only usable for one platform. It's just a thought, though. Good luck on your project!
Cheers!

Good points! BUT... there's that proverbial 'but' again! Ha! But the idea of the SMT (Smart Media Token) is to bootstrap the SMT to Steem while at the same time creating a token that identifies more with group (community) it represents. What that does is allows the 'Flicks' token (the Token name we expect to use for our niche community of film people) on steem.film to find its own value on its own merit as compared against STEEM overall, without directly affecting STEEM - favourably or adversely. It's a new frontier for communities. Does that make sense? Thanks for the comment.

I believe it makes sense and I hope it works out in the best way possible.
BUT one funny detail: While watching the video, I always imagined that the token name would be written as 'Flix', as in Netflix.
You know a company has done something right when its alternative spelling is more recognized than the word from whitch it's derived.

That's a very good observation. Thank you. Do you mind if we use? We haven't done the final research as yet so we don't know if it's even available but... maybe!

Interesting thoughts. I'd love to hear your take on @appics !

First time of heard of it other than it claims to be the SMT on Steem. I take it it's a stand alone and not interfaced with Steemit. I will check it out. Thank you for the heads up.

Some interesting ideas regarding your Steem Film project @brain-rhodes. Once we know more about how SMTs work and can play around with them it will be easier to get an idea of what is possible for your project. You have my full support and will help in any way I can here. You should join the Steem Speak Discord server. Its a good place to collaborate with other Steemians and I am always online there. You will need to download the Discord application on your PC. Here is an Invite : https://discordapp.com/invite/sqxV63P

thanks a lot, I can not say much for you. I am very glad you can present in my post yesterday @thejohalfiles

Thank you for your support. It's very much appreciated. My next two blogs - Monday 5Feb18 and Thursday 8Feb18 between 8:00AM and 9:00AM - will elaborate more on the marketing strategy, namely getting the word out into the mainstream for both steem.file and steemit.com. Looking forward to chatting with you.

An interesting idea I think has been implemented I expect it to be a great success . Great work .

But thank you sir for all your efforts . @brian-rhodes

"If you build it, they will(maybe) come!" I've heard that somewhere before...

I also will refer to, "I wanna be where the people are." Ya, a little mermaid quote.

Wouldn't a narrowly defined community require some type of exchange where their particular crypto can be easily exchanged for and with other media producers? Such as, Film producers trading Film tokens for Music tokens from Music producers?

A film producer wishes to get some music for their film but only have their tokens, would they then "pay" a music producer, (I just had an idea), in Film tokens for their product?

The idea I had was even more narrowly defined crypto-tokens within the Film Token SMT. Where producers would create a subset of crypto-tokens per project, like Die Hard Film Tokens, where they can "pay" people in production tokens. They could be traded for regular Film tokens, or, and this is where the idea came to life; If the film does well, the specific production token would then be worth more on the Film token market. This doesn't account for flops and how they would affect the Film token market.

I agree the Smart Media Token is where the future is headed for sure. How lucky are we who are at the precipice of a new ".com" era.

We expect our token 'Flix' to be used as a currency for all services provided - yes a complete production paid for in Flix. Whatever the service providers do with it is their business - keep them for investment, buy services themselves, pay for a new camera or turn them into cash since Flix will be bootstrapped to Steem. And to answer your second question... although no doubt some will attempt a token for a specific project like 'Die Hard 17" my feeling is, since films have such a short life it will be difficult to gain support from the at large Steemit.com community whereas, in steem.film you have a community specific interested in being a part of a filmmaking community.

Thanks for the info! My son is heading off to film school next year. I recently told him about steemit, you, what you are talking about as far as the possibilities of film funding through steemit. He has now applied for a steemit account and is patiently waiting to start having fun here. Cheers!

Fantastic. Have him sign-up for Steem-chat and reach out to me @brian-rhodes before he posts his introductory post. I'll resteem it for him and upvote his first dozen or so posts until he gets a leg up! Also, since he's chosen film I'll be interested in what he has to say! Thanks fir the heads up!

Thanks again Brian! I've been giving him a tour around steemit today. He just reached out to you on steemit chat. He's got some ideas for his intro post but still working on it... @enak is his steemit profile. Cheers!

We've connected. After I get my head clear from the shoot on the weekend, I'm reaching out to Kane on Steem-chat!

That's a very nice offer, thank you! I let him know and he has seen your comment. His account was finally approved but he's got a big week with honors class homework and rehearsing for his performance for the high school talent show. Hopefully this weekend he'll have time to explore around here and reach out. Thanks again, cheers!

That's great to hear! Kane has been having fun posting on steemit, you should see his face when when his vids get @curie'd, lol. Feel better soon!

The use of the blockchaine technique in this field has become a must, an excellent idea from my point of view will be successful with excellence , Good luck @brian-rhodes .

The way I see it, STEEM is like the OS and SMT are the Apps. Just because many people use an OS like Windows, doesn´t mean, that people will know about your App that runs on Windows. So does it help, if many people use Windows? Yes for sure, but it won´t market your app - that´s up to you as the developer.

I agree. And with the next two blogs, you will see our plan for marketing. I think you'll be pleased with it's [potential for both steem.film and steemit.com

You seem to have this online block chain marketing down pat. Congratulations!

Not quite... but we are working on it!

The old story of 'If we build it, they will come". SMT's are going to be a big player soon. Cheers again @brian-rhodes just can't expect it to do everything

A huge player in my opinion!
