Mining Steem with Digital Ocean Droplet!

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemers and old time miners.

(This is a free write meaning I write about anything.)

I was looking around the feed yesterday and a post jumped at me, I have been trying to find something similar.

well lets get to the good parts I tried mining on my laptop mind you it is only a core i3 yea pretty lame and slow But I am going to be building a better rig pretty soon and document it for you guys. Any ways mining steem on an i3 is worthless and bad for your laptop... which I have. So like I said above I found @omotherhen post and I am amazed of the detail this person puts into what he writes, making it so easy for any one to mine steem!! Yes any one can mine it! go and follow this tutorial he wrote. With his own all in one package. EZSTEEM

Here is a small piece of his tutorial

I've decided to glue together all the bits and pieces of my previous  scripts into one unified project, EZSTEEM. As a quickly growing project  for an interactive all-in-one script, I and @gikitiki  will now be working on EZSTEEM in tandem. EZSTEEM's objective is to  simplify the deployment and operation of STEEM miners and STEEM nodes  for any user, leveling the playing field to leave no STEEMIAN behind.  Ongoing development will continue under the name of EZSTEEM, namely a  simplified cli_wallet for all to use will be @gikitiki and my goal.

shows you how to go about mining on pc or laptop with just these three items.

VMware Workstation 12.1.1 Player for Windows 64-bit operating systems

Ubuntu 16.04 Server 64 Bit

A Windows 64-Bit Computer

(This is only a test I have been running it since yesterday I will update in a week.)

so I wanted to see if I can do the same thing with Digitalocean.  And it worked flawlessly!

First go to Digitalocean make an account if you don't have any and then make a droplet,

When asked for an image choose  Ubuntu 16.04 Server 64 Bit.

Make sure to have 2 GB of Ram and above so I choose this one for this tutorial But I actually choose the one with 16 cpu s :).

After that you will get your log information for your server you get IP address, root, and password you are going to have to change your password. Than you are all set.  You can access your console within digital ocean or use putty which ever is fine for your.

Once you have your console up

Login with your  Username/Password
Brainlessly type (no copy paste!) in the commands below, you have better things to worry about!
When prompted for a password, enter in the same password you used to login at first!

sudo apt-get -y install git
cd /var
sudo git clone https://github.com/omotherhen/EZSTEEM/
cd EZSTEEM
sudo bash EZSTEEM.sh

We are going to do a full install for mining Steem
This option does a full install and setup of EZSTEEM Miner, an auto configured miner for those who have not mined before
When asked for setting a directory, if you do not know just press ENTER, a default directory will be made
After the install is finished, your STEEM Miner will launch automatically and begin mining STEEM for you!
If the screen goes black, hit BACKSPACE. It's just a screensaver for command line!
And now watch the fireworks until you're greeted with a prompt to enter in the number of mining threads.
Enter in how many STEEM accounts you want to make, the more mining  power you have, the more accounts you'll want so that you do not waste  time waiting in queue. If you do not know, 4 accounts is a good start.
Enter in the names you'd like for each account
That's it! The script will do the rest of the work for you. You're done setting up your first Linux miner in a droplet!

Here is what I am getting with the setup I have. its fairly straight forward thanks to @omotherhen

Sort:

NOT POSSIBLE TO MINDE STEEM , BUTT i minded monero for 2 mnts , used ubuntu 16 .... 512mb i got 10 $ promo so it was running for two mnts , i used cpu miner i think, forgott about it, it is like 4 monts ago , i have forgotten wallet and all that, but i remember it now so can find the data snd publish a post on the proffitability. i used digital ocean and tryed to use it for many things , but the beginning project was a nj.NODE back end for my pi zero poison tap.

found my first block! 1 Steem per block! looking like 42 steem an hour for one account.

please, keep us updated!

How profitable is is, if at all? Can you at least break even with the $480/month bill you'll get at DigitalOcean?

as stated above I am doing a test for a week.

So what the results ?

Getting steem to mine is kinda a mission and it annoyed me that I had to mine 1 whole steem. Rather use eobot then you can mine any algo and convert it to steem :)

I've been looking into setting up a miner. It would be interesting read how you go over the next week or so.

well follow and I will post an update.

Hey, how was the results?

Haha not so good, 6 STEEMPOWER over the course of a week, CPU cores for digital ocean are so crappy. and not worth it. I will be posting some data.

bummer! I got some hope on that! well well!

Warning! mining STEEM is not possible anymore.
Save your time.

Can I mine STEEM?
No. Proof of work mining has been removed from Steem.
