Opinion: The future of Steemit

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

An altruistic website? Content that is curated by users, promoted by users, rewarded by users?

A site where you simply cannot make a quick buck, but must be vest in the community in order to profit and succeed?

Welcome to Steemit. It's a year old, and it's growing steadily. The cryptocurrency that it's built on recently reached $2, all in all things are going well.

But where is it's future? What will happen?

-Firstly, the site's success is tied to the value of it's tokens. In this current market, the value of Steem is approx $1.65, the higher the value the great incentive to post, I see the value continuing to rise, and more users becoming interested in blogging due to this.

-I see higher media interest, especially amongst the alternative media. A site that has a blockchain as it's base, makes it decentralized, and as such, more tolerant to freedom of speech. I see a rise in alternative media steemit blogs, perhaps some larger posters will actually be instrumental in bringing more users to the platform.

-There will be a gradually increasing battle between Reddit and Steemit. As Steemit reaches the public eye, users will begin to question whether or not they want to stay on Reddit. As such there will be greater investment in Steem/Steemit, and a decrease in the popularity of Reddit. The social engineering, virtue signalling from the Reddit website, often leaves a bad taste in users mouths, with Steemit being free of that, and a forum for all opinions, it's only reasonable to assume that within a few short years, the tide will change.

-The concept of altruism, which Steemit fosters by it's nature, is something that I feel may actually spread elsewhere. An upvote is kindness to the writer, it's saying "Well done, here you go", I think too often we take content for granted, but here an upvote is acknowledging an author's work, and in the long run will lead to better work.

Conclusion:

Steemit has a bright future ahead, the currencies tied to Steemit have a bright future. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, STEEM and SBD have a working concept, one I am writing on. It has an underlying social concept that brings out the best in it's users, and a community that truly loves it. As such, Steemit will adapt, grow, and thrive in the future, and may even kill off it's older competitors.

I’m currently using steem, more than facebook. Its really great idea. Steem have power to unseat the social media king facebook. Still lot lags when compared to facebook.

Blockchain is future, Like bitcoin (and alt coins) may make banks obsolete. Steem have the power to make social media companies obsolete. Its not easy but not impossible either.

All it takes is for word to spread. Who would have imagined the death of Myspace and the rise of Facebook.

Myspace had all the bells and whistles, but Facebook was quick back in those days. Now Facebook is slow and clunky just like Myspace. My gaming computer's fan screams at me when I'm using Facebook. It does not when using Steemit. It's actually becoming time for a change, and I bet Facebook is now slowly starting to lose users, not only the privacy issues but the usability issues as well.

Steemit is one of the most lucrative markets to be invested in right now, it's potential is massive. It could literally be a gamechanger on the web. It's a real, usable implementation of blockchain technology here and now. It's not just a "currency".

Interesting post but what do you think of the opinion in this article.
The Ugly Truth Behind Steemit

I would ask what the poster there gains from writing the article.
Is he invested in other currencies, websites?
What does he gain from warning others? Is he altruistic?

Steem exists, it's here, and it's thriving. No matter what anyone says.
All cryptocurrencies and implementations are considered a scam by someone, he's posting rumour, possibly twisting facts etc. It's an interesting read but just because someone says it doesn't make it true.
