It is my understanding that comments do not affect curation of the parent post. In reality, comments are separate posts in themselves and get author rewards and curation values just like top-level blog posts.
I thought I had heard mention of some effect when the person that upvotes does or doesn't leave a comment.
But I knew about the posts and comments both being posts with their own curation.
I do know it is generally frowned upon to upvote your own comment without upvoting the post itself, but I don’t think that affects curation.
Oh, hah, such behavior hadn't even occurred to me.
A side note: I found a new steem app; musing.io. This is an appropriate place to ask all sorts of questions, probably even steemit ones. Cheers!
