QRF

in #steem5 years ago

Three little letters but ones that can have great implication. QRF. I can imagine some of you are thinking WTF right now...Also three letters but with a completely different connotation. So I better get on with it right?

QRF in military terms means Quick Reaction Force which is typically an armed unit capable of a very rapid response to developing situations, most typically to support other units in need of assistance.

So, how could this relate in any way to non-military personnel? Not at all really however with a slight manipulation of two words I think it applies nicely to steem.

QRF: Quick Reply Focus.

Have you ever taken the time to respond to a blog, written a valid and engaging reply and then...Nothing? For ages, or possibly forever. You forget the comment you made, the post it related to and move on right? No stress and no big deal for you, but what about the person you responded to? Could this lack of reply back to you affect their progress on steem? I think yes.

Now before I go on...Yes I know people are busy in life. Yes I know some accounts get many, many comments to their blogs. Yes I know it's the users prerogative to reply in a timely fashion, or at all. I'm not trying to have a crack at anyone, only point out that having a QRF here on steem may indeed assist a user to develop better relationships, followers, enjoyment and possibly post rewards. Come on, you get it right?

I try to respond to replies as quickly as possible and value engagement, people who take the time to do so with me. Sometimes they've even read my post first which makes it even better. I know I miss some occasionally but I think in the main I'm pretty good at replying to those who comment on my posts.

When I don't get a reply back from an initial comment I've made on a person's blog though, for a long time, I mean a couple of days, it's sort of too late. I've moved on and it no longer seems relevant. I think that's a wasted opportunity for the user who may have been new to steem. Opportunity lost, and opportunities, genuine ones are not the easiest of things to come by here.

My advice for newer users...When someone replies to your posts and you can tell it's a valid, relevant reply, a genuine attempt to engage...Respond in kind and in a reasonable time frame. Have a QRF in that noggin of yours and make the effort to respond. There's no point responding to a bot like I've seen many do...It's better to deploy your comment in the right area, upon the right person, and in a suitable timeframe. It's your choice of course, however it's certainly a powerful way of involving yourself in the community, building your brand and exposing yourself to others...Or not, it's your call.

When I first started on this platform I commented a lot. I made a point of it but these days it seems the only thing new users are prepared to do is put 57 different blog banners at the end of their blog, take pictures of boulders, gates, bus stops, mushrooms and all sorts of other bullshit then sit back waiting for the millions to roll in...Well, that's not going to work, not in isolation anyway. Engagement is necessary, especially with HF21 and free flags on the way.

To those existing/older users promoting themselves via these banners on other people's blogs...How about also promoting some of the attributes that will actually assist those new users rather than simply having your minions promote you and your concepts via your blog banner(s). Teach them to be sustainable.

Anyway...Whatever. Get QRF into your noggin, use 73 post banners, engage, don't engage, photograph a pile of rocks and call them boulders...It's a free platform for people and bots to use as they like. It just takes a little more effort here so if you want it to be easier go over to Facebook and like everything. No thought required there at all and your rocks masquerading as boulders might pick up a like or two. No blog banners required there.

I have read several of your posts since joining or had some posts read to me prior to my joining and they always seem to get a reaction out of me. Laughing, thinking, smiling etc. I look forward to reading more and "thinking" more!

Hey, thanks for saying so. I try to write what I feel and as close to the way I am in real life (mainly). We're all different and I get that so try not to be too hard on others...But sometimes I can be. Humor tempers that sometimes. I'm glad you're along for the ride.

I look forward to reading more!!

So I'll just ignore that little banner at the bottom of your posts and wait for the next post about your envious looking breakfasts, or fun days on the range / teaching people to shoot, or that amazing farmhouse? That you "protected" with your rifle... or those fun stories where you visit your brother, sister-in-law, and niece! 👍

By the way, i like the addition of "aim small, miss small"! 🔫🔫🔫

One banner is legit - Shows character. I've seen 10+ banners though and I don't see the point. Just my opinion. Seems they're like assholes these days, everyone has one. Opinions I mean.

My next blog is about getting red balls so you might want to miss that one, or not. 😁

Working on one today about testing some 4x4 gear on my pickup - Video mainly.

I like to keep it fluid...Like...G&T's and Peroni!

Anyways, I'm glad someone picked up on my new addition to my post-signature. For me...Well, that statement is relevant. 😊

Have a good weekend man.

I suspect banners (at the bottom of your posts) are way too much overestimated!!

Now that's a banner! I once got mistaken for Gandalf...Apparently we look very similar.

Posted using Partiko Android

I have no doubt we should have and share some gandalfics physical resemblances my friend.

Just wait a bit until I publish my article about my "planning-wanting-doubting-on-going-to-sf4" so you can have a chance to see yourself reflected in that strange and mystical mirror. };)

I mostly deal with other artists and a lot of us value comments more than upvotes/favs/whatever (which are also appreciated obviously but...engagement XD). So engagement is kind of a habit as well as figuring a lot of other people would be similar XP

Hm I only have one banner plus my gigantic footer, maybe I should add more in XP (there's only one more I would probably add in if I was going to)

Yes, seems to be the norm that people have more banners than content in their blogs...Follow on. Being a lemming is popular these days. 🐀 I'm not sure if that emoji is a lemming. Could be a rat.

Posted using Partiko Android

Gotta promote/show you're part of those communities somehow!

I really should make my footers smaller but I'm lazy x_x

Definitely a rat XD I don't think lemmings have tails (or long tails if they do have tails).

I've never seen a lemming...Although I heard the all follow after one another. Sound like sheep. Like sheeple.

I love how people defend their banners though...Like it's the most important thing in the world. Makes me laugh. Like belly laugh. So, maybe it's a good thing. I normally only laugh like then when people slip over, walk into poles or drop their lunch in their lap then look around to see if anyone saw!

Engaging with people on steem was a massive help in me building up support and friends etc.

Posted using Partiko Android

And here you are still engaging. Just makes sense doesn't it? ✅

Posted using Partiko Android

Yes indeed it does 👍.

Posted using Partiko Android

Engagement is key as it is part of the building blocks of relationships and the communities that can arise if fostered correctly.

Yep, and funny how it's the users who have already acheived a degree of success, through doing so, that always say this...That's kind of my point.

Vote for @Steemitboard as a witness to get one more award and increased upvotes!

I agree that engagement is key, and for me it's actually a lot more fun than how many votes I get. I have made some pretty good friends that way. I do feel bad when I miss a comment and don't reply. I also try to reply to all of them. I have Partiko on my phone, so I get notified every time someone comments back to me, which helps enormously. And I do actually read your posts all the way through before I comment! I hope the newer users will get something from this friendly reminder!

The new users should be engaging as much as possible in my opinion. Oh well, that's a choice they make and will have to be content with.

Posted using Partiko Android

I really think the new users might not understand how important it is. I'm an engager by nature, so it came easily to me. I love to chat with strangers until they become friends. Not everyone is like that, though, and it can be intimidating. But it's important to suck it up and do it!

Posted using Partiko Android

Quite probably. There's plenty of blogs extolling the virtues of engagement though...Still, the newbies are probably too busy not reading anything in preference for images of boulders, bus stops, gates and mushrooms, or uploading more blog banners. Can never have enough of them! 🤪

My cynicism comes through fairly strongly does it not? 🤔😉

Posted using Partiko Android

It's not subtle! Haha! For the record, I have no banners at all! Not even a signature! When I was new I read a couple of posts about getting started, but I was so overwhelmed that most of it went right over my head. And I have posted the occasional boulder (or other simple thing) when I have had a boring few days and can't come up with a good post. My feeling was that it's better to post something rather than go silent for several days and have people forget about me. Maybe I'm wrong?

Posted using Partiko Android

Don't get me wrong, I love a good boulder as much as the next person...The highlight of my year is seeing a boulder you know. (Not really).

Seriously, I get it...Sort of. But it's not really a very good way to interest others in a user's work is it?

Oh look, here's a blurry photo of a bus stop pole - Maybe it's just me...Don't find much interest in a steel pole.

I think there's a million other things to say that might inspire a little interest.

Still, what do I know, I'm a small fish anyway...And I don't have even one blog banner. Just a lowly little signature.

Posted using Partiko Android

No, not the most productive way to get people interested. And even with the blogs that focus on photography, which I really enjoy, I prefer the ones that tell a story. Something that gives me a sense of who the blogger is.

Posted using Partiko Android

Me too. It makes for a better experience.

What are your feelings on links to prev chapters on an ongoing story.?

I do like the way you back link with the worm hole / time traveler links. It made going back to read your trekking story scroll less and easy. And in order 1,2,3.... Easy Swishy Squeezy....

So does pimping our BitTuber sites make us BT Whores.... lol

I link back sometimes to give context to the post I'm writing and it's a good way to showcase older work because it's so difficult to find here otherwise. I do that for people new to my blog. I've posted a lot of blogs, 1.5 times a day for over 2 years, so it's difficult for people to go back and find my stuff.

Adding links to a blog also allows people to do further research if required.

Posted using Partiko Android

yeah, before even though your new in steem. You can comment a lot without reducing your RC. Maybe the new user were suffering with this that's why they can't do comment much. What I'm wondering are those steem user who has just am SP like me. They can do comment but couple of times but still they don't use it.

I experienced what you said about writing a long content but didn't notice. It made me felt hopeless and disappointed. I gave too much effort but in the end, ignored. But it didn't stop me on writing because as time flies by I understand. Maybe I'm not that good in writing. I didn't point out what were their thoughts and maybe I didn't caught their interest. But it's not just before because until now I haven't caught many steemians thought just yet. lol

Although sometimes I did, it's fine to me. I never did invest and I never did buy vote's to the bot. That's why I'm just chilling though it hurts. Still, it's fine as long as I'm enjoying in writing. Who knows I'll be better someday.

By the way, what banner were you talking about. All I encountered comment's were those, "nice, thank you for sharing, good luck and steem on. lol

Enjoying your time on the blockchain is important. If it becomes a chore it's not going to be sustainable although most here are interested only in a financial gain.

If you enjoy it, and enjoy writing then take that as your reward and move forward.

As for newbies commenting...I've seen small accounts write comments like "good post" which is a total waste of a comment. They could have written something more valid but didn't. I mostly ignore comments like that, or respond with something similarly stupid. I know new accounts are limited which is why engaging is so important, as is not wasting resources with idiot commenting.
