IBT Survival Island Game - Progress Report Twenty Seven

in #steem5 years ago

Welcome to this weeks update on IBT Survival Island.

Just a quick update this week, work continues at pace and mainly this week we tried to perfect our in game oceans.

Its been a less serious week, we temporarily left the list of  bugs alone and spent just a bit of time for play. It was fun working on floating, swimming and tides.  Maybe even boats to fish from and home built rafts, some cool ideas came from a bit of play.

You can see in the image above how we can simulate a tide. We don't want it to look the same all the time as the ocean isn't just the same. Sometimes it needs waves, sometimes it needs to be in or out and sped up. Tides will wash items on the shore from time to time which will be critical to players survival success.

Thanks for continuing to follow our Crypto Game building project - Until the next progress report, Steemon!

Looking forward to the release, when do you think you will be ready to release the alpha version

It's not something I can commit to at this stage - made a decision to get the bugs done before a release, suspect few months.

Looking forward to giving it a crack :)

Thanks man - you'll be on the early access list for sure

just found you but don't find introduction post of this game dev. Is this c#/unity and will steem blockchain br used?

Thanks for the comment.

For the moment we are concentrating on building the product - good quality educational survival game using UE4 engine.

We are intending to release the game on Steam for free download. It's a PC based game and not web-based. This will present some challenges to hooking back to Steem blockchain, but is necessary to build the environment and graphics we are looking for in a first person survival.

We are considering doing an early alpha/playable demo for some people on steemit who expressed interest early in the piece.

Pending some feedback there we will be a DLC were we look to integrate the game more directly with Steem (or another block chain if I can't find the support to make it work), withing U34 we may use c++ addon and via public API or something else to connect to Steem. I have investigated very little at this stage as the focus is on getting the product built first and creating something delightful and useful.

I have a preference to use Steem, I was hoping even a SMT, but support has been limited and not exactly having angel investors falling from the sky here - Still no rush and hopefully support will come when the time is right.

Cheers

Cool, i guess it shouldn't be too much of a headache to address Steem from C++ but i must say i don't know anybody who did it.
A simple json() post should be enough though, everybody is doing it this way (for games at least). i made something like that in python with beem library from holger80 in no time (with no clue about python to be honest), could even be compiled to exe and usable like that.
Anyway, will follow you, i am starting to think towards some Steem apps as well but i am absolutely no web dev so long way to go.
i would like to avoid javascript and think C# so i will encounter same issue to address steem blockchain. if you ever make some C++ solution, let me know, i will do same :-)
btw, i was on new discord homeschooling server, that's where they mentioned you
cheers

Nice - thanks for the tips. It's hard at moment as 99% of effort in learning ue4 and other products to get game done, just spread too thin to even investigate the blockchain bit yet..will be certain to have a chat with you when we get to that stage (will be looking to smart people in the steem community for help for sure)... Best of luck with the homeschooling, def way to go in my books :)

Fishing and tides and boats sounds really cool! Are the survivors going to be able to boat back to civilisation?

haha well we are going to have a future update where Steemians can escape their personal island and visit another Steemians, but this is a idea very late on the roadmap, depends on how far we go hooking to blockchain, etc. etc.

Things being washed ashore sounds fun. Although I'd probably keep running back to the shore all the time to see what else I could pick up.

Cool - hopefully, well that is the plan, there is only so much play-ability being stuck on an island with limited resources, checking the beach regularly will be key to finding goodies to make the survival stay that much better..

You could have maps in bottles or messagges wash up on the shore.

I think a funny thing would be for there to be advertising for junk food (pizza, burgers) while you're struggling for survival...

Haha! That would be funny and so accurate for the state of our oceans.

...unfortunate but true..i did say i wanted realism :)

Some interesting ideas for sure..

Cool - err..I could even charge real local business to advertise in the game haha..

It's looking good man, can't wait to give it a crack!

Thank you sir - will keep working it.
