Help is available but first we must understand what addiction is and after doing that, we can proffer solutions. When you have no control over either an internal decision or action, doing something or using something that isn't harmful to you immediately but can be in the long run as you continue to do it, that is an addiction.

In the past, addictions used to be associated with alcohol, drugs, sex, and dangerous lifestyles but in this present time, It can be anything from work to using the Internet. Sometimes, working to make money becomes so additive that some people will be at it all day, they will not eat, they will not rest or take any breaks even after they become physically and mentally exhausted.

They will not take holidays neither will they take sick leaves, they do not have any sort of personal, social or family life. They are always at work.

The Internet especially with the invention of mobile phones have become an addiction that is not easy to maneuver, the social media contents are intriguing, comedy, sexual content, people spend so much time scrolling their phones than sleeping or eating. When they find time to do that, they rush back to their phones again. When they do not have access to the Internet, they are unsettled, they feel cut off from the world.

Every other aspect of their lives will be put on hold or neglected until they have to power their phones or they fall sick or hungry. Substance abuse has always been the prime factor for addictions and it is more dangerous now than ever because the addiction starts from shooing for these substances, they are now packaged in great containers than ever.

*The end result of most if not all addiction is feelings of guilt, shame, despair, and ultimately regret. There are many causes for addictions but the most popular is the "Feeling of excitement in the moment".

Some addictions can affect your brain chemistry, your relationships, your self-esteem, and your quality of life. If you are struggling with an addiction, you are not alone. Millions of people around the world face the same problem and many of them have successfully overcome it.

The first step to overcoming an addiction is to admit that you have a problem and that it is affecting you negatively. Denial is a common defense mechanism that prevents you from facing the reality of your situation and seeking help.
