How to Increase Comments?

in #steem8 years ago

Currently most posts get few or no replies. How can we fix that?

One way is to allow people to make comments more often than they can create original posts. Another way is to display the comment in the general steemit streem, or have a "hot" for comments, or something like that.

What other suggestions do people have for fixing the incentives to reply and discuss things?

At the end of every post, people could try to ask a question! This would help get users talking more :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is actively trying to improve the content on Steemit. To that effect I created this campaign:

I will upvote every constructive comment I get on Steemit with 5-10 cents in order to create a WIN-WIN-WIN.

You win by having me upvote and follow you, I win by having great comments and more followers and above all Steemit wins by getting better content.

I think it's just a matter of time. If this problem persists even with a large userbase, then I guess you have an actual problem, but for now, I think it's negligible.

The good ol' wait and see approach, eh? :D

Maybe, but I can't clearly see why scaling would help with this issue. For my own part I believe most issues seen early tend to persist, even if one tries to ignore them. It is also usually easier to change things up in the beginning than after everyone has gotten comfortable with the way things are.

Your arguments are valid, but the thing is, I just don't think steemit is large enough yet to make the assumption we're not commenting enough. I think relatively we are, but there's just too little of us.

How many steemers are there?

I don't know, I'd like to know!

As Steemit grows, comments will grow. Right now people are gaining more mileage creating new posts around a popular topic rather than commenting.

I don't see this lasting as more people use the platform. I think commenting on a 'hot' post will be a more viable way of getting meanful votes/ income than creating a new post.
