What are the fluctuations of cryptocurrencies?
Buying and sellin
Crypto-currencies, like all other assets, are priced differently depending on the market (depending on supply and demand). In a simplified way, thousands of sales and purchase orders are set at a given price and quantity. When someone buys, he executes the cheapest contract (he buys at the best price). The person who wishes to buy after the first individual, must do so against a more expensive order. We can therefore deduce that the price has increased. Conversely sales, the more sales are executed, the more the price will decrease. Other mechanisms govern the theory of supply and demand. So, if traders think that the current price is below the true market value (that the asset is undervalued), they will be more likely to want to buy. Conversely, if the price is too high, they will be more likely to want to sell.
For example, let's imagine that someone just bought 1 Bitcoin for 10,000 €. Let's say now that 3 people want to buy Bitcoin at 9,500, 9,000, 8,500 and 3 other people want to sell at 10,500, 11,000, 11,500. If a person wants to buy 1 Bitcoin instantly, they will have to buy it at 10,500 €, the best price on the market. As a result, the price of Bitcoin will have increased by $ 500.
The movements
Cryptocurrency (and stock) price movements do not depend solely on speculation. Important events can take place, raising or lowering the course. Thus, when a cryptocurrency is introduced on a new exchange general public, new buyers will be able to acquire this crypto, and thus its price increases. Conversely, when a hack on a cryptocurrency takes place, its price drops.
The result of an event on the price of an asset reflects the trust investors place in it.
