Sprayers, Naysayers and Layers

in #steem6 years ago

The Steem world we occupy is a beautiful place. It has a few issues sure but, all in all it is working as it should be; like a big ecosystem of unrelated people who each have their motivations, aspirations and methodology of satisfying their goals. It is a goddam mess. I love it.

I have spoken about Steem being a microcosm representation of the real world and each day that becomes more of a reality as the ecosystem continues to grow. Here is a visualization by top witness @gtg that I like as it shows the organic nature of the Steem blockchain as it grows:

I stole this from his post 3 days ago that explains what is represented and what is not:

It DOES NOT include such awesome projects as: SteemMonsters (by @aggroed and @yabapmatt), D.Sound (by @prc), DTube (by @heimindanger), SteemPeak (by @asgarth, @dmytrokorol and @jarvie), and many, many, more.

Yes, the Steem world is not only increasing but, it is breaking the barriers between the artificial microcosm and the larger 'real' world each day as more and more projects and users find ways to bring the outside in and, push the inside out. At some point, the inner core of Steem will be invisible, like a tree house built and overgrown by a jungle. Most using the infrastructure two or three years from now may be so far removed from the central system, Steem as we know it today seems like a legend of old, like Beowolf

In the current world there are all types of personalities and realities as well as expectations on the way things should be but, the universe is at play. There is no should, there is possible and impossible and what is impossible today may be possible tomorrow. Potential to turn the impossible into possible takes change in the system. Stagnancy in movement is the supporter of status quo, keeping what is impossible that way.

Churning the waters however brings new organisms to light that can grow and connect and create their own fractals of light in @gtg's visualization. A new project can be born and once relaeased to a wider audience, evoke new thoughts and ideas and in so doing change results. The process of all creation is basic: thought, word action.

And, in this community we have a lot of thoughts and, a lot of words which when pushed out, when read, considered, absorbed can lead to a mass of action that moves the waters, creates ripples and waves that seem predictable to some until a thousand more pebbles are cast in, along with a few rocks and boulders. It is near impossible to know where this will all lead but, it is travelling somewhere, always.

There are the Sprayers of the positive view as if the future is guaranteed a success. This may inspire but also sets the audience up for disappointment through expectation as, How far away is soon? There are the Naysayers who only see the negatives and although they feel they are being realists, they have overbalanced their weighting, they look narrow and exclude what doesn't fit into their world view.

For me, this is all about layers, many sheets stacked one atop the last but not directly upon. The edges over lap to build into manuscripts or, fall away, crumpled into balls near the bin. None is more or less important though as each plays a part in building the pile of resources, adding to the growing conversation upon the Steem blockchain, immutably. The words and actions of one can inspire the thoughts of many which become new words and new actions to continually push outward on the walls.

Many here don't see the layers because they stay reading the sheets of paper they have been handed, they don't shuffle through and pick up a pile from another corner of the table. It doesn't matter though, not everyone needs to be interested in the big picture or, even in the medium sized frame. There is space to stay narrow here too.

But, it is good to remember that this place is large, impossibly large at times and no matter how well you think you know how it operates, there are corners unseen, projects ongoing, changes happening. And if one gets too comfortable knowing what is known, the changes go unnoticed until they have an effect, they encroach on experience and affect thoughts, inspire words, change action again.

For me, I find it beautiful, including the ugly and, there is plenty of ugly to be seen. All of the layers are constantly interacting with each other, pushing each other, creating new stories laterally and vertically through the blockchain and becoming new experiences, new realities for us all. If you are here and your life is yet to be affected by being here, you must be asleep, you must not be paying any attention whatsoever as in this space, there is possibility and in this space there is the potential to make more impossibilities a reality. For some, the chances are good, others slim but, this is the way life evolves and, there are always surprises in store.

Sprayer, naysayer or surfer of layers, there is something for everyone and it is continually expanding. Experience isn't just what happens to you, it is also what you make from it. Are you experienced, what are you going to do with it?

Trying to pay attention but too much is going on @tarazkp. Sometimes I am a sprayer, other times I am a surfer of layers. Presently I am a naysayer. Some folks treat steemit like an airdrop and it's tiresome to keep on telling them that it would moon soon. Let them work with the negatives, if they can't stick around, well they won't be here for the positive.

Each has their path. take yours and let others find theirs. Many who use it like an airdrop are likely in for regrets. It is not like the information wasn't available here though.

I am not experienced on the world of Steemit, I cannot fully explain how blockchain works but reading and hearing some of the top witnesses, steem festival, etc. I know that Steemit has a better positive future and I am keeping the faith.

If you are really interested in having a long-term position here, it is good to start learning how some of the background pieces work or fit into the system. Nothing is handed out here, it has to be discovered.

"the organic nature of the Steem blockchain"

Steem is like a virus, it's strains mutating and spreading, some dying, some blossoming like flowers, all the different front ends competing for attention like naughty children, some getting spanked, some getting treats, and on and on it goes, where nobody knows.

It is organic, growing, evolving, changing, and nobody will ever fully comprehend the whole of it, as it's now too large to read every post, to view every video, to know every person come and gone, all round the world, yet this is what is encouraging about it. Evolution and change are engines of survival. :)

It is this aspect that will slowly erode the peaks of value and spread them wider so there are lower, but many more mounds of value.

I feel pretty fortunate to be involved at this stage. Maybe one day this will be the hidden core buried under all those apps.
Outsiders do not understand at all when I chuck a few dollars into Steemit. It is not about investment for me because a good investment would be free of emotion.
Steemit is an opportunity to maybe make a difference. Where else can I give away some money and have it regenerate to give again tomorrow?
I do agree with you on one point I absolutely love it.
Hopefully the penny I have to give now will one day be nickels or quarters, maybe even whole dollars.

People miss this side of it completely.

It can happen very fast in crypto :)

I think I'm a bit of a 'naysayer', but really, other than your posts, and one or two others who seem to be real people, I don't see much going on here other than bots voting on posts which seem to be either by bots, or about steemit's place in the crypto world.

As you might remember, I'm trying to stay positive here (i.e. - I don't downvote, preferring to use what power I have for good). Having found myself not all that keen lately, I've reduced my posting.

To me, my resistance to, and disgust with automated stuff ('spam', I label it all) prevents me from participating in the crypto-party, so mine will likely never be significant here.

I guess I'm asking, what IS here? The only things I have to say about steemit anymore are pretty critical. It's no different than any other platform, except that it doesn't work as well as a blog space.

I'll likely just walk away from it, but am considering turning my account over to some automated service, because that DOES seem to be what is valued the highest here...

Any other ideas for using up nearly 50 steem?

Have you looked into @dlive, @dtube, @steemhunt? Perhaps a change in format might bring your interest up? It is interesting the different views here because where I spend my time, most comments or votes of substance aren't automated, they are by real people. There are also discord communities that are filled with real people and chats where people hang out and share a laugh. It is a growing system, not a blog space alone. The blog aspect could be something in the future or, it could just be killed off completely as most people tend not to write or read as much as they used to in this world.

I have spoken about Steem being a microcosm representation of the real world

I have also felt the same way. I have a particular problem with the naysayers as they are more dangerous than even those who do nothing

They can also strengthen the resolve of those who are looking to grow as well as weed out those who are short-sighted. Not necessarily a bad thing except for those who buy in to their ideas/ideals blindly.

Great visual representation (although it kept developing from the center).
I like the idea of making sense of experience and putting it to work somehow. We'll always have to deal with ugliness, so it's up to us to be affected by it or shun it (turning it beautiful is too utopian).

I will have to describe myself as a sprayer. I try to be actively involved and genuinely want this place to flourish
