RE: I'm considering a witness campaign - would I have your support ?
Hi @ausbitbank - I would support you. I think you already do a great job with community involvement, and it sounds like you have the technical side under control.
One thing to keep in mind is that even if you don't get into the top 50 right away (or wherever the current break even point is) that you could start out with just a single witness node and no seed. Usually if you are actively posting, the one server is easily affordable with a month worth of posting rewards. I was able to do this for several months until I moved up high enough to break even.
@timcliff knows. There is a loss to experience at first... take a lot of time and devotion (and let down). It isn't recommended for those that aren't ready to jump two feet in, and if a loss is experienced over multiple months..
When @ausbitbank said:
money is tight here
...thats why I wrote what I did up in my previous comment.
Also @timcliff mentions he's at a "break even" point. I imagine that means server costs... not time. If you add in his time... he still hasn't broken even yet.
You can make more money in general, by this post, than you did running a low level witness. Which is bizarre... People see popular names high up on the witness list, and go "aha! That's how they became whales"
...that is true.. last year, when STEEM was new. I don't know of any new whales created from witnesses these days.. So the witness list can be misleading.
Sorry, it is sound stupid question. How do I to choose a witness ? I had tried many times to put @austbitank on the option "box" but failed. Thank you ! :)
Here is a guide on choosing: https://steemit.com/witness-category/@timcliff/witness-voting-guide
As far as voting on @austbitank, it will not let you until he has actually declared himself as a witness on the blockchain.
Once he has done that, you can vote on him here:
https://steemit.com/~witnesses
By typing his name (without the @) into this box at the bottom of the page:

Thank you ! :)
Thanks for your enthusiasm - I've decided to go ahead with this and I should have my node up within about a week tops and it should work then. Also, theres a typo in the username ;)
Nice, could you sent announcement when you have joined as witness, so I can see on my feed page, and vote you as soon as possible. :)
Sure thing, I'll make a proper announcement post as soon as it's all good to go :)
Okay, I will follow timcliff. I vote you as my witness ! :)
Cool, thanks! :)
Thankyou Tim that means a lot coming from one of my favourite witnesses :) I've considered you the community manager for a while now, you've done a great job communicating changes behind the scenes and with your changes on GitHub etc..
My recent success posting is the main reason why I feel like I should be able to afford at least a single node with my posting rewards with the way things have been going, but ideally I'd like to be able to run multiple full nodes to feed my sites like steemviz and not be reliant on other people's nodes..
Thanks! :)
Here's a post on witness pay if you haven't read it yet:
https://steemit.com/witness-category/@timcliff/til-how-much-witnesses-and-miners-make-per-block
Also, the https://steemdb.com/@witnessname/blocks page will show you how many blocks witnesses are getting based on their position.
Thanks Tim that's a really handy post and I hadn't noticed that section of steemdb either.
