A Reflection on the Presidential Candidate Debate
Today, I watched the first debate between the US presidential candidates. The debaters were Donald Trump and Joe Biden. According to status, they can be referred to as international figures, so they have attracted large audience.
Both debaters did not clearly express matters pertaining to policies and personal visions they have for the United States. On the contrary, they belittled one another. And one of the candidates has repeatedly broken the ground rules of the debate.
After the debate, most listeners felt that this was an annoying debate. And more than 80% of the audience have taken notice the negative tone. Obviously this is not an inspiring debate.
Someone asked whether it was worth watching a replay of this debate. My response is that it’s not worth watching if we want to learn some debating skills or the art of rhetoric. However, if you want gain more insight regarding human behavior, you can watch this debate.
Finally, if we intend to have more positive influence, we must avoid negative criticism, and be more prepared to convey positive messages and optimistic visions. Facing a torn society, you and me indeed have an important role, that is, to lift up others for the transformation of society through authentically positive words.
